Fundraising campaign for mother with cancer: help from the neighborhood needed!
In Greifswald, a fundraising campaign is being launched with a lot of heart and commitment to help a mother with cancer in her time of need. 45-year-old Madlen Teßner recently received the devastating diagnosis of colon cancer. She has already had several operations and is now fighting the disease with chemotherapy. Her three daughters want to help the family and have started the initiative to ease their financial worries. Every small contribution counts, and the campaign can be found on the GoFundMe platform, where donations can be made directly for her treatment. GoFundMe shows how important every support is to cover urgent medical costs.
But it's not just the lives of the Teßners that are in the public eye. There is also other news in the city that concerns citizens. The Greifswald toy store “Flax und Krümel”, popular with young and old, is closing its doors. There were rumors about the closure for a long time, and now this is becoming a reality as the search for a successor was unsuccessful. The sale offers the chance to grab the rest of the range at bargain prices until the end of the year, which for many is a last chance to buy their favorite toys.
Reconstruction and changes in the catering industry
Greifswald's culinary landscape is also undergoing changes. The “Spiegelchen” café is closing after four and a half months for renovation work and a concept revision. Boss Svea Bohlscheid plans to return in March with a fresh concept and new offerings. Hopes for a prosperous time at the café remain high despite the winter break, and many residents are looking forward to the reopening.
Unfortunately, there have also been tragic events to report in the last few days. A 15-year-old moped driver died in an accident in Jarmen when he was run over by a truck. The investigation against the truck driver for negligent homicide is already underway. In moments like these we realize how fragile life can be, and the city mourns the young driver.
Fight against the disease
The challenges faced by those affected by cancer are enormous. The Deutsche Krebshilfe provides information about some of the help options that are available in such difficult times. If people become seriously ill, sick pay can be essential support. It secures your livelihood while you are unable to work and amounts to up to 90 percent of your net income, but only if you have the necessary entitlement. The question of additional benefits is also relevant if the financial reserves are not sufficient.
In the midst of these events, a special meeting of the citizens will take place on November 17th to discuss the more expensive than expected renovation of the traditional sailing ship “Greif”. Citizens are excited to see what happens next and what decisions will be made to ensure the ship's preservation.
