Alarming accident numbers: 114 collisions on the B 105!
The federal highway 105 in the Vorpommern-Rügen area remains a dangerous hotspot for traffic accidents. So far, 114 accidents have been recorded in 2025 alone, a worrying trend, especially considering the 377 accidents recorded last year. As the Baltic Sea newspaper Reportedly, there are both seriously injured and slightly injured people among the victims of these often tragic incidents.
The serious traffic accident on Tuesday, February 6th is particularly noticeable. At around 1:15 p.m., a Seat car and a Hyundai car collided on the B 105 between Karnin and Kummerow. A 64-year-old driver of the Seat suffered serious injuries, while his 23-year-old passenger is in a life-threatening condition. Tragically, a couple in the Hyundai, both 68 years old, suffered a fatal death. The total damage is estimated at 50,000 euros. The SnCurrent also reported on extensive measures to record accidents, supported by an expert from Dekra.
Security measures and statistics
The section of the B 105 is busy and has a long history. The section between Rostock and Ribnitz was built as early as 1842, and the area between Ribnitz and Stralsund also underwent extensive renovation and widening in the 1970s. Statistics from Destatis show that road safety should be optimized through targeted measures in legislation, traffic education and road construction. Monitoring the speed reductions between Altheide and Wiepkenhagen, which were decided in the first quarter of 2025, could help reduce the high accident rate.
The B 105 stretches over 182 kilometers, runs from Greifswald via Stralsund and Ribnitz-Damgarten to Selmsdorf and is important not only for local traffic, but also for the connection to Sweden. The data from the last few years shows a worrying development, which is supported by the new accident statistics. So far in 2025, there have been two seriously injured people and eleven slightly injured people, indicating that despite the measures taken, not all safety efforts are fruitful.
The constant accidents on the B 105 raise the question of how road safety can be further improved. It remains to be seen whether the planned monitoring measures and speed reductions will have the desired effect in minimizing the number of accidents on this dangerous route.
