Barbie house and senior bus: Rügen delights with special highlights!

Sellin is all about mobility and fun as summertime is in full swing. With his community bus, Bernd Garand ensures that seniors who need reliable transportation can get to supermarkets, doctor's appointments or the bank free of charge. The bus, originally initiated as a “taxi to the beach” for holidaymakers and locals, has long since established itself as a social institution that not only offers practical journeys, but also creates opportunities for social gatherings. Older people in particular show how important such means of transport are for their mobility, as their travel purposes often focus on leisure, shopping and personal errands, as a study by the TU Dresden shows ( Research information system ).

The challenge of mobility for older people is particularly noticeable in rural areas, where there are often fewer transport options and services available. Safe and convenient transport plays a crucial role in promoting the quality of life of the older generation and supporting their independence.

The “Barbie House” attracts many visitors

Another reason for the region to be happy is Daniela Koch's unusual “Barbie House”, which shines in a striking pink and rose color. This special home attracts numerous holidaymakers who want to stay overnight in the high season until September. The house is famous not only for its colors, but also for curious details, ranging from a seal statue as a table base to an armchair made of plush toys. The symbiosis of a colorful home and a charming environment makes the Barbie House a hotspot.

Eastern Bloc vehicle meeting delights car fans

The 24th International Eastern Bloc Vehicle Meeting will take place at the former Pütnitz military airfield from July 4th to 6th. Thousands of participants, including many historic vehicle enthusiasts, are registered for the event. Visitors can look forward to impressive vehicle parades and presentations, with registration and tickets available for purchase both online and on site. The Technikverein Pütnitz e.V. supports the event and has kept ticket prices stable compared to previous years, which is undoubtedly good business for the organizers ( Pütnitz Technical Association ).

Arrival is possible from June 30th and it is recommended to arrive early to avoid long waiting times. The event is not only a celebration of automotive technology, but also a platform for community and exchange among like-minded people.

Future developments in the Stahlbroder harbor

There is also talk in the region about the Stahlbroder Hafen, where an investor from Perleberg is planning to convert empty buildings of the former fishing cooperative into holiday apartments. A development plan is currently being drawn up to realize this conversion as early as next summer. Such developments could not only contribute to the revitalization of the port, but also provide economic support for the region.

There is also the OZ campaign to elect firefighter heroes 2025, where almost 5,000 votes were cast and the finalists come from different regions, including Rostock and Vorpommern-Greifswald. This shows that commitment to the community is very important even in challenging times.
