Western Pomerania is looking for the best club heroes – 14,000 euros for your commitment!

In Western Pomerania, numerous people are passionately involved in clubs, and that is exactly what is being recognized now! The “Western Pomerania Club Heroes” campaign, an initiative of the OSTSEE-ZEITUNG in cooperation with the Sparkasse Vorpommern, will start from October 28, 2025. This campaign aims to put the spotlight on volunteer work in the Vorpommern-Rügen and Vorpommern-Greifswald districts, and a total of 14,000 euros in prize money will be awarded.

Readers are invited to nominate their favorite clubs. Whether it's a sports club or a cultural project, there are no limits to creativity! Ulrich Wolff, CEO of Sparkasse Vorpommern, emphasizes how important it is to support clubs through donations and crowdfunding. This campaign offers the perfect platform to promote the commitment of diverse community projects. The nomination period runs for three weeks and readers must explain the reasons for their nomination. Criteria include trainers, integration projects and fire department needs.

Nomination and voting process

Important to know: After the nomination phase, a jury selects four finalists, who are then evaluated by the readers in a two-week vote. The prize money is staggered as follows: First place receives 5,000 euros, followed by 4,000 euros for second place, 3,000 euros for third place and 2,000 euros for fourth place. In addition, vouchers will be raffled off among all registered participants, e.g. for Ikea, Stadtbäckerei Junge, DM and Thalia. A real celebration for the region's volunteer heroes!

The campaign in Western Pomerania is also part of a larger promotion of volunteer work. Since 2016, the Great Orphanage in Potsdam Foundation has been awarding a prize for daycare and school support associations in Brandenburg. Projects that actively involve children and young people in decision-making processes are honored here. Particular attention is paid to initiatives that advocate for disadvantaged young people. Such projects concern, among other things, schoolyard or playground design and environmental protection initiatives that promote the participation of children. It is precisely such efforts that reflect the importance of voluntary work, which is becoming increasingly important not only in Western Pomerania but throughout Germany.

In view of these valuable volunteer activities, it is clear: Great things will continue to be achieved in Western Pomerania in 2025, and this will be done by committed citizens. Anyone who would like to put in a good word for their favorite clubs during this time now has the opportunity to do so! If not now, then when?
