Who will be Neverin's new mayor? Three candidates in the race!

A new chapter will soon open in the idyllic community of Neverin. Around 1,000 residents are looking for a new mayor after incumbent Nico Klose announced his resignation at the beginning of November. Klose, who was elected mayor of Neubrandenburg, will be sworn in on July 17th and will thus vacate his place in Neverin, which makes the mayoral election absolutely necessary. The election date is set for October 26, 2025, in keeping with the democratic tradition, as NDR reports.

Among the three confirmed candidates, one applicant in particular stands out: Karoline Koreng. The 30-year-old deputy mayor is not only the first official candidate from the “Citizens for Neverin” voter community, but if she is successful she could also become the youngest mayor in all of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. She already has experience as a member of the cultural committee of the Neverin municipal council and has previously been actively involved in municipal politics. In her professional career as a health and nursing worker, she has proven that she has a keen eye for the needs of her fellow citizens. Nevertheless, the comparison with the previous incumbents will be exciting, because the youngest mayor, Julian Klinkenberg, was only 28 years old when he took office, reports the Nordkurier.

The competitors

But Koreng has two competitors: Hagen Flemmig, 46 years old, a pharmacist and soldier, and Ralf Hintze, 61 years old, who is canvassing for votes as a work educator. These three men and women are now expected to win the favor of around 870 citizens eligible to vote on October 26, 2025. The tension will noticeably increase because the decision on the 14th head of the community since 1945 is pending. Historically, only one woman has held the mayor's office: Hannelore Scharff, who served from 1975 to 1990.

Eligibility and eligibility to vote

How important this election is is also reflected in the demands placed on voters. All Germans are entitled to vote in accordance with Article 116 paragraph 1 of the Basic Law as well as citizens of the member states of the European Union. It is important that they are at least 16 years old on election day and have lived in the electoral area for at least 37 days. Candidates must be at least 18 years old, have a residence in the electoral area and have not lost the ability to hold public office as a result of a judge's ruling or a civil or criminal decision. laiv-mv.de summarizes these requirements.

With an exciting election campaign just around the corner, Neverin shows that citizens can actively intervene in shaping their future. The election promises to be an interesting venue for emerging talents and experienced minds at the same time.
