Wolgast: Peene Bridge for maintenance from Monday - traffic cramped!
From Monday, November 3rd, 2025, drivers and pedestrians in the region around the Peene Bridge in Wolgast will have to prepare for better weather. As NDR reports, technical maintenance work is beginning and will last for several weeks. The replacement of around 7,000 liters of hydraulic oil is on the agenda, which has become necessary due to the natural aging of the oil. In addition, important components and hose lines will be replaced to ensure the safety and functionality of the bridge in the long term.
However, the work, which is scheduled to last until mid-November, will entail some traffic restrictions. From November 3rd to 9th, 2025, traffic over the bridge will be regulated in one lane with traffic lights. This may require some patience, and the Neustrelitz road construction authority appeals to drivers to show understanding. On the nights of November 6th to 7th and November 7th to 8th, the bridge will be completely closed so that the hatch can remain open longer in order to move the exchange forward smoothly.
Traffic disruptions and diversions
During the nightly closures, traffic will be redirected over the Zecheriner Bridge (B110). The exact times of the closures include the first from 10:30 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. on November 6th and the second from 11:30 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. on November 7th. So if you want to make your way towards Usedom, you should pay particular attention here. Pedestrians and cyclists can also only use the bridge to a limited extent and must expect additional restrictions on nights when the bridge is closed. Ships that do not require bridge opening will continue to be able to pass throughout the construction phase, but larger ships will be barred from passage between November 3rd and 9th, 2025.
Rail traffic also affected
The maintenance effort also has an impact on rail traffic: The RB 23 trains from Ahlbeck to Wolgast and from Wolgast to Heringsdorf will be canceled on November 6th and 7th. A replacement rail service will be organized for the affected journeys, so that travelers do not have to completely forego their usual transport. All other trains will run as scheduled, which is at least a small ray of hope for some.
The maintenance work is considered necessary to keep the bridge in a safe condition for traffic. Nevertheless, the costs for the new building as part of the bypass have now risen from the original 140 million euros to over 500 million euros. The federal government is reluctant to award the contracts, which further delays the entire process. Even if patience is required, the maintenance of the Peene Bridge should help to guarantee traffic safety in the long term. Further information about these changes and their effects can be found at Nordkurier.
