Defeat for German volleyball players: 2:3 against the Netherlands!
The German volleyball players had to assert themselves in a nerve-wracking duel against the Netherlands at the weekend, but cannot look back on the victory they had hoped for. The exciting match in Belgrade ended with a close 2:3, after sets of 23:25, 25:19, 21:25, 25:23 and 10:15. In the Nations League, this is already the fourth defeat in the eighth game for the team under coach Giulio Bregoli, as ZDF reports.
Particular attention is paid to Felix Koslowski, who, as the former national coach of Germany (2015-2021), now acts as the Netherlands' bond coach. Koslowski also manages the fortunes of the German champions SSC Palmberg Schwerin and has made his presence felt in his new role as coach of the opposing team.
Placement and perspectives
Germany is in seventh place in the current Nations League table, but still has every chance of qualifying for the knockout round. The top seven teams qualified for the tournament, in addition to Poland, which will host the final tournament. The next games will also be crucial: On July 9th, the German team will play against Canada, followed by matches against Thailand (July 10th), China (July 12th) and the Dominican Republic (July 13th), according to Tagesspiegel.
The upcoming World Cup in Thailand, which takes place at the end of August, is also the highlight of the season for the players. It remains to be seen how the team will fare after this series of challenges.
Past games and form crisis
The current form of the volleyball players has been mixed, although they previously celebrated two wins in just 24 hours against France (3:2) and Serbia (3:1) in an impressive competition. Nevertheless, there was a clear defeat during the week against Poland, where the German team lost 0:3 (16:25, 16:25, 20:25). This makes it clear that despite recent successes, consistency in the game remains a central theme. With this record of four wins from seven games, the German women are apparently not in a lost cause, as they were briefly in sixth place after the game against Poland, as Sportschau notes.
The coming weeks will be crucial for the German volleyball players to qualify for the knockout tournament and find form for the World Cup. After all, it's not just performance that counts in sport, but also team spirit, which is now required to be successful in the remaining games.
