Mill day in Schwabsien: tradition, electricity and exciting guided tours!

Schongauer Str. 1, 86987 Schwabsoien, Deutschland - The German mill day, which is traditionally celebrated on Whit Monday, is just around the corner. A very special festival will take place on June 9, 2025 in Schwabsoia, which is located near Schongau. Under the motto "Mühlentag", visitors are invited to experience the history and meaning of the mills in the region. Mayor Manfred Schmid emphasizes the importance of the village community and invites everyone to enjoy the numerous activities.

In Schwabsoia, the mill day has been celebrated for many years and is part of the 32nd German mill day, which is carried out throughout Germany. On this day, around 650 historical mills open their doors to give insights into the old miller trade. Wind, water, steam and engine chairs are put into operation and the guests are offered an exciting program. If you look at the years, there has been a strong visitor interest in recent years, and a high number of guests is also expected for 2025.

the Mühlenweg and its stations

The Mühlenweg in Schwabsoien is a central part of the festival program. In this way, the participants can experience half -hour tours between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., with the meeting point in front of the town hall. The Mühlenweg leads to the picturesque sources of the Schönach river, which are accessible all year round. The highlights include the Pröbstl mill, which served as a sawmill and grinding mill until 1992 and today has an active water wheel for electricity generation.

Another stop is the Keller Keller Kunstmühle, which is over 500 years old and is now also generating electricity with a turbine. The third station, the former Schmiedjörgeler hammer smithy, has continuously established itself as an energy source that produces enough electricity for 20 households. This is supplemented by Germany's oldest hammer smithy, which has been mentioned in 1415 and has been restored by Peter Götz since 1986. The last stop of the Mühlenweg is the carriage museum of Johann Hartmann, in which over 30 historical carriages and sledges are exhibited.

a varied supporting program

On the mill day itself, visitors can expect a diverse program with demonstrations for electricity generation, activities in the mill mills and the hammer smithy. In addition to the craft, Bulldog classic cars and artisans are also presented. The musical entertainment and culinary care are also taken care of: the event promises to become a festival for all the senses.

Schwabsoien will be closed to through traffic on June 9, 2025 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. to give guests an undisturbed experience. The parking lot is located at the town hall, Schongauer Str. 1, 86987 Schwabsoien, and the accessibility takes place comfortably via the B17 Landsberg - Schongau or the B472 from the direction of Weilheim/Peißenberg. There is also a bus connection from Schongau train station.

Millage day is not only an opportunity to honor the past of the mills that are essentially bound by the mill, but also to celebrate an invitation to celebrate the culture and inheritance of these industrial buildings. Organized by the German Society for Mühlenkunde and Mühlenstorste (DGM) and local associations, the mill day is a valuable enrichment of the cultural calendar and also offers unforgettable experiences this year.
