Altmark Music Festival: 30 years of joie de vivre and diversity for everyone!
There is a lot of celebration in Saxony-Anhalt: the Altmark Music Festival is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. The anniversary edition boasts more than 50 concerts taking place in the extensive region until November 5th. Organized by the Stendal and Salzwedel districts, the festival extends across a variety of venues, including concert halls, village churches, museums, libraries and even open-air stages. Under the motto “Music for everyone, everywhere in the Altmark” there is a colorful program for the whole family. World reports that this festival is intended to promote not only music, but also the networking of cultural workers, communities and clubs.
The opening concert in the Stendal district sets standards: “Beethoven meets Jazz” takes place in the Prignitz Museum Havelberg. A week later, on August 17th, the Altmarkkreis Salzwedel continues with a concert in the Diesdorf open-air museum. Particularly noteworthy are the four orchestra concerts that are specifically aimed at primary school children, as well as eight school concerts that take place in secondary schools. This shows that the music festival not only sets cultural highlights, but also inspires the younger generation for music. The region, which extends over around 4,800 square kilometers and is sparsely populated, attracts with an average population density of just 40 people per square kilometer.
A celebration for everyone
“In order to offer the many talents a platform, the admission prices are kept moderate,” explains the official program musikfest-altmark.de. This accessibility means that many people can also take part in the events. The success story of the festival began in the former Osterburg district and shows how, with commitment and shared passion, a cultural event of great importance can be created in villages and cities. The artists' combination of creativity and playfulness creates an inspiring atmosphere for all visitors.
The district administrators Steve Kanitz (Altmarkkreis Salzwedel) and Patrick Puhlmann (Stendal district) hope that visitors find joy in music and culture. The anniversary program is impressive and offers many highlights, such as a festival concert in Tangermünde. Music country Saxony-Anhalt also has an events calendar that summarizes other performances and events in the region and offers those interested an overview of the rich cultural offerings.
