Peaceful protests in Bitterfeld: 1,000 votes for democracy and diversity!

In Bitterfeld on Monday evening, October 6, 2025, almost 1,000 people raised their voices. Two political rallies took place at the same time under the watchful eye of the police, who were on site with dozens of people. As the People's voice Reportedly, around 800 people came to the AfD event, where Ulrich Siegmund, who was recently nominated as the top candidate for the 2026 state elections, took the floor. At the AfD rally, among other things, critical comments were made about the federal government and the established parties, as well as the desire for a “political change”. Siegmund even stated that Saxony-Anhalt could “make history” in the coming election.

At the same time, a counter-demonstration by the “Future, Shaping Together Network” took place on the market square, with the motto “Bitterfeld-Wolfen shows attitude”. Loud Central German newspaper Around 150 people took part in this event. Anke Sittig, spokeswoman for the network, emphasized cohesion and tolerance and discussed the importance of human dignity and diversity.

Diversity of topics in focus

The counter-demonstrators, supported by numerous civil society groups, formulated clear messages against right-wing extremism. The speakers, including Anke Sittig, Matthias Schütz and Ina Killyen, emphasized that the protest was not only a reaction to the current election results, but also set an example for respectful coexistence.

To reassure everyone involved, the police noted that both events went largely smoothly. Despite loud slogans that could be heard on both sides, there were no major confrontations. This shows that in Bitterfeld the focus is on dialogue, despite different opinions.

Demonstrations on a larger scale

Another rally in Bitterfeld is already scheduled for November 3rd, and it remains exciting to see how the political landscape in the region will continue to develop. The coming months could be crucial, especially before the state elections next year, in which both the AfD and the opponents of the shift to the right will be looking for votes.
