CDU and Lamstedt Citizens List: New alliance for strong majorities!

A new political alliance is forming in the joint municipality of Börde Lamstedt. The Börde Lamstedt citizens' list and the Börde CDU sealed the cooperation in their first meeting on Thursday evening. The aim of this cooperation is to pool forces and create clear majorities in the joint municipal council. CNV Media reports that a written agreement records the cooperation. Kerstin Tiedemann from the Bürgerlist and Ann-Kathrin Lafrenz from the Börde-CDU expressed themselves positively about the agreement reached.

This alliance is particularly curious considering that four years ago there was a deep rift between the CDU and some local politicians who eventually founded the Citizens' List. With eight mandates in the joint municipal council, the citizens' list has a strong position, while the CDU was previously represented in an alliance with the Greens, SPD and the voting group “We for the Börde”. At the moment, the Social Democrats are suffering a decline because they only have one council member left, and the voting community has also lost two representatives. Together with the citizens' list, the new majority group, now called the BL/CDU, leads the votes in the joint municipal council with 13 out of a total of 19.

Political reactions and future plans

Tiedemann in particular emphasizes the importance of fair cooperation that also takes into account the opinions of minorities. The alliance plans to put together a joint list of candidates for the 2026 local elections, which is already causing discussions in advance. SPD chairman Tim Mehrtens is critical of this development and describes the CDU's actions as an electoral maneuver. The SPD and the Greens have decided to appear together in the council under the name “The Progressives”.

The founding of the Citizens' List has another background that should not go unmentioned. Loud North24 Seven local politicians left the CDU because they felt insufficiently supported and the local CDU in Lamstedt was perceived as non-existent. Jan Bornemann, the parliamentary group leader of the new group, explains that the decision to leave has been made for a year. The dissolution of the existing CDU parliamentary group in the council reflects the ongoing tensions.

Local politics in focus

In times of such changes, interest in local politics is higher than ever. This form of politics affects citizens directly and offers an easier way to participate in politics. A recently published book by Kerstin Völkl and Michael Jankowski deals with the topic of local council elections in the German multi-level system. An overview of the publication shows that it examines various aspects of voter participation and the influencing factors of independent voter communities. Such well-founded analyzes could help citizens to better navigate political events.

The new appointments in the council presidency and in the specialist committees are due next Thursday and could bring about new dynamics in Lamstedt's political landscape. It will be interesting to see how the cooperation between the Citizens' List and the CDU will affect the upcoming elections.
