Break-in at a construction site in Osterweddingen: 30,000 euros in damage!

A three-day burglary caused a stir in Osterweddingen. According to the police, between September 19, 2025, 7:00 p.m. and September 22, 2025, 6:00 a.m., a fenced-in construction site and several containers were targeted by unknown perpetrators. They gained access by slashing fence panels and even forcibly removing an entire double bar mesh panel. A construction container that was secured with a padlock was also broken into and searched, although it remains unclear whether anything was stolen.

What is particularly explosive is that it was not possible to clearly determine whether stolen goods escaped from another container with control cabinets. At least a cable drum that was transported over the separated fence field was found near the crime scene. The estimated total damage is around 30,000 euros. There are currently no indications of the perpetrator. The police are asking witnesses to contact the Börde police station on 03904/478-0. This type of burglary constitutes serious theft and is punishable under Section 243 of the Criminal Code, which means that the perpetrators face a prison sentence of three months to ten years.

Burglary: A nationwide phenomenon

As the Statista platform documents, residential burglary is a widespread problem in Germany. In 2023, around 119,000 burglaries in and out of apartments were recorded, with around 77,800 cases classified as residential burglaries. This represents the highest level since 2019, although the numbers are down over 50% compared to the approximately 167,000 cases in 2015.

It is striking that the crime rate is particularly high in urban areas such as Bremen, Berlin and Hamburg. The security of citizens is greatly influenced by the increasing number of burglaries in recent years. Burglaries not only cause material damage, they also reduce people's sense of security and can lead to psychological stress.

Prevention measures and consequences

Alarm systems and security locks are often not sufficient to completely prevent break-ins. The police advise not to leave any windows open and to take appropriate precautionary measures. In the event of a break-in, it is advisable to inform the police immediately and not to enter the affected rooms if a perpetrator could still be there. A detailed list of stolen and damaged items can also be very important for insurance claims.

Break-ins at construction sites and commercial properties are just as common as break-ins into private homes. Therefore, it is important to act wisely and take safety precautions to avoid becoming a victim of these acts. Burglary is a serious crime and everyone should be aware of the legal consequences that such theft can entail.

Police remain committed to this case and other active investigations into burglary and crime in the area. Tips are accepted at any time.
