GPS devices stolen: Police investigate after break-in in Hundisburg!
On October 1, 2025, local police reported several thefts in the region around Hundisburg and Oschersleben, once again drawing attention to the increasing crime in Germany.
In Hundisburg, more precisely on Jacob-Bührer-Straße, the police noticed an uninvited visitor in a warehouse between September 29, 2025, 6:20 p.m. and September 30, 2025, 6:30 a.m. Unknown perpetrators forced their way into the building and stole two GPS devices from tractors. A container was also broken into, but nothing was removed. The damage is estimated to be around 10,000 euros. Tire tracks were discovered on the site that could not be assigned to the damaged company's vehicles. The police have asked for information from the public. Anyone with information can contact the Börde police station on 03904/478-0 [sachsen-anhalt.de](https://www.sachsen-anhalt.de/bs/pressemitigungen/polizei?tx_tsarssinclude_pi1%5Baction%5D=single &tx_tsarssinclude_pi1%5Bcontroller%5D=Base&tx_tsarssinclude_pi1%5Buid%5D=602806&cHash=4ccd0dc0adf235cd34e99995235158ea) reported.
Another incident occurred in Oschersleben, where between September 29, 2025, 8:00 p.m., and September 30, 2025, 7:00 a.m., a car was the target of a theft in the parking lot of a hardware store. The perpetrator broke the window and stole the driver's wallet, which contained documents and several hundred euros in cash. The estimated damage here is around 700 euros, as also announced by the police.
Burglary numbers at a high level
Electronic items such as smartphones, cameras and computers are particularly popular among thieves. While the peak of the burglaries during the corona pandemic was in 2020 with 85,000 cases, the numbers have stabilized again in recent years, with around 119,000 burglaries recorded in 2023.
The consequences of break-ins
However, in addition to financial loss, burglaries also have far-reaching psychological consequences. They not only violate the privacy of those affected, but also affect the feeling of security that should exist within one's own four walls. According to statista.de, burglary is considered unauthorized entry into living spaces with the aim of stealing, although there are various methods of breaking into a home, be it by forcing it open or by trickery.
The clearance rate for residential burglaries was 14.9% in 2023, which is relatively low compared to the overall rate of all crimes (58.4%). Burglaries are particularly common in urban areas, while rural regions tend to be less affected. Mülheim an der Ruhr, for example, had the highest burglary rate with 283 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, while Fürth is considered the safest city with only 33 cases.
The discussion about burglary protection solutions is therefore becoming increasingly important. Experts recommend investing in burglary-resistant security such as crossbar locks and alarm systems, as well as increasing the visibility of the property, for example through outdoor lighting with motion detectors. Attentive neighbors can also make a crucial difference.
In view of these developments, it is essential for citizens to address the issue of burglary protection and to take precautions to increase their own security and ensure a good feeling within their own four walls.
