Dental Health Day 2025: Discover saliva as a superpower!
On September 25, 2025 it's that time again: Dental Health Day is just around the corner. This important day of action has been celebrated throughout Germany since 1991, particularly to educate children and parents about the topics of dental care and oral hygiene. The youth dental service of the Börde district has once again put together a comprehensive program this year under the motto “Healthy starts in the mouth – superpower spit”. This targeted approach is intended to highlight the importance of saliva for our oral and general health, as landkreis-boerde.de reports.
Saliva is more than just a liquid in the mouth; it fulfills many essential functions. Saliva protects the teeth from acid attacks and repels pathogens. It also ensures that we can speak, swallow and eat. Sufficient saliva flow, healthy oral flora and regular dental prophylaxis are crucial for oral health. Promoting these topics is a central task of the action day, as bzoeg.de also states.
Action days in kindergartens and schools
As part of Dental Health Day, numerous events take place in primary schools and daycare centers in the Börde district. On September 9, 2025, the future dental care heroes will have the opportunity to find out about healthy nutrition and dental-healthy breakfast meals at the “Gänseblümchen” daycare center in Ackendorf. On September 17th, 2025, the primary school in Kroppenstedt will be considered with the offers, followed by the Gerhard-Schöne-Förderschule in Wolmirstedt, which is organizing its own day of action on September 23rd, 2025 to mark its 32nd anniversary. The crowning conclusion will be the “Seesternchen” daycare center in Seehausen on September 25th.
The health benefits of saliva and the need to take dry mouth seriously in those affected are also discussed. Dry mouth can make speaking, eating and sleeping significantly more difficult, especially in cancer patients or those with chronic illnesses. Dr. Christian Rath, managing director of the Association for Dental Hygiene, shows how important it is to drink water regularly and use mild toothpaste to promote the flow of saliva. If there are serious problems, those affected should not hesitate to seek medical help.
A holistic approach to oral health
Good oral health extends beyond the teeth and influences a person's overall well-being and self-confidence. It is an essential prerequisite for actively participating in social life. Oral health is not static and varies throughout life. It is therefore important to be sensitized to good oral hygiene from an early age. The oral health debate is complemented by evidence on social inequalities and access to health services, as highlighted in numerous studies, including leitkonzepte.bioeg.de.
Dental Health Day is therefore more than just a day of action - it is an opportunity to raise awareness of the importance of oral health and to offer those affected concrete assistance. So stay tuned and take advantage of the offers to promote your oral health!
