Burgenlandkreis honors Robert Weinkauf with a prestigious award!

On September 20, 2025, a very special prize was awarded in the Goseck Castle Church: the “Georg Christoph Biller Prize”. The award went to Robert Weinkauf from Goseck, who was honored for his years of commitment to the Burgenland district's cultural scene and his role as director of the Goseck Castle music and cultural center. Numerous guests from politics and culture were present at the award ceremony, who honored Weinkauf's achievements. District Administrator Götz Ulrich praised his work in various cultural areas and events, which he prepared with a lot of passion.

The prize, which is named after the important Thomas cantor Georg-Christoph Biller, is being awarded for the third time this year. A look at history shows that the first two prize winners were Philipp Baumgarten and Christina Simon, both of whom contributed to enriching cultural life in the Burgenland district with their outstanding artistic achievements Burgenlandkreis.de reports.

A prize with tradition

The “Georg Christoph Biller Prize” is not only a nice award, but also worth 2,000 euros and is financed by Sparkasse Burgenlandkreis. The winners also receive a lithograph by the artist Bruno Griesel. “This award is intended to recognize and promote the cultural achievements of the region,” explains cultural manager Lion Hartmann. Citizens have until February 28, 2025 to submit suggestions for future award winners. The whole thing can be done either by post or email, whereby a well-founded justification and evidence of the services of the proposed persons are required.

The five-member jury, which decides on the submitted proposals, is made up of prominent representatives of the cultural and educational scene. These include head of the cultural department Robert Assmann and special ambassador Thomas Fritzsch. These professionals bring their expertise to select the best proposals. So if you know what's popular in the Burgenland district's cultural scene, you shouldn't hesitate to submit your ideas.

A look into the future

Georg-Christoph Biller, after whom the prize is named, was the 16th Thomaskantor from 1992 to 2015 and continues to be highly regarded even after his death in January 2022. For his services, he was honored with, among other things, honorary citizenship of the city of Nebra and the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany, First Class. This tradition of recognizing outstanding cultural achievements is continued by this prize, and it remains exciting to see which talents will be honored with the “Georg Christoph Biller Prize” in the coming period, as will HalleLife.de and [Wittich.de].
