A tragic accident overshadowed paragliding in the Burgenland district. A 77-year-old paraglider was reported missing at Laucha Airport on August 27th. On Friday evening, the police discovered him on a nearby hillside, but the emergency doctor could only determine that the man was dead. This reports MDR.
The man was blown up on Wednesday, which was his last sign of life. That same evening, a friend raised the alarm and suspected that something had gone wrong. A large contingent of police, fire brigade and various rescue services then launched a comprehensive search operation. Boats, drones and helicopters were used to search the entire area around Laucha airfield Thuringia24 reported.
Safety in paragliding
Paragliding, or paragliding, is an air sport that is very popular. The pilot sits in a harness under a paraglider and controls it using special lines. The sport has evolved greatly since its beginnings in the 1960s and is now considered a safe recreational activity in many countries, although training and a license are required. Safety has improved significantly through strict standards and training guidelines, as on Wikipedia can be read.
Paragliding training includes both practical and theoretical parts, and a safe take-off is only possible if all regulations are strictly adhered to. Paragliding is often practiced in scenic areas such as mountains or hills where thermal and dynamic updrafts are used to gain altitude.
The 77-year-old pilot's accident shows once again that, despite all the safety precautions and a growing community of around 37,000 paragliding pilots in Germany, the risks associated with aviation should not be underestimated. The criminal police have now started an investigation into the exact cause of death in order to clarify what led to this unfortunate incident.
According to reports, the paragliding community has not only grown in numbers, but is also characterized by an increasing awareness of safety and proper behavior in the air. It remains to be hoped that such tragic accidents can be avoided in the future.
