Raid in Saxony-Anhalt: Police seize 80 kilos of drugs and weapons!
Police raids and drug discoveries in Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt are currently causing a stir. During extensive searches on July 5, 2025, the police were able to seize around 80 kilograms of drugs worth more than one million euros. The measures took place in a total of 26 locations, primarily in the Burgenland district, where 21 buildings were searched, as [MDR](https://www.mdr.de/nachrichten/sachsen-anhalt/halle/burgenland/drogen-fund-razzia-kokain-cannabis-ecstasy-crystal- Waffen-102~amp.html) reports.
The substances seized include 70 kilograms of marijuana, 6 kilograms of crystal meth, several kilograms of cocaine and 1 kilogram of ecstasy. This high amount shows the extent of the drug problem in the region. The police also seized several thousand euros in cash, weapons, blank guns and prohibited pyrotechnics. Two high quality vehicles were also required to complete the operation. Five suspects, all men between the ages of 25 and 36, are now in custody.
Background to the investigation
The raids are the result of an ongoing investigation by the Halle public prosecutor's office. There is suspicion of gang-like, illicit trafficking in narcotics and cannabis products, as Blick reports. The arrests involve six men who will now be brought before a judge. It is a serious return to drug crime rates, which continue to reach worrying levels in Germany.
Drug offenses are a major concern for authorities. According to Statista, around 347,000 cases of drug-related crime were recorded by the police in Germany in 2023, an increase of 2 percent compared to the previous year. Around 208,000 of these cases involved cannabis, which has been partially legal since April 1, 2024. Nevertheless, the illegal trade in drugs remains a central problem.
Social challenges
The health and social consequences of drug use are alarming. The number of drug-related deaths in Germany rose to around 2,230 in 2023, with many of these deaths being due to long-term health damage caused by excessive drug use. This situation illustrates the seriousness of the issue and that preventative action must continue.
These raids are not only a step against organized crime, but also show that authorities must remain vigilant. The pressure on drug traffickers in the region is growing, but it remains to be seen whether these measures can have a lasting effect.
