The competitive handball season has finally started. On Friday, August 15, 2025, fans were able to experience the first exciting encounters in the DHB Cup. There were no big surprises: Dessau-Roßlau and Eintracht Hagen showed their strength and won against their opponents. That reports Handball World.
In the first games of the cup, the two teams clearly prevailed. HC Empor Rostock had to accept a bitter defeat and lost clearly against the second division team VfL Eintracht Hagen with 24:35. Dessau-Roßlau was also able to assert itself against Vinnhorst and thus secured a place for the next round. Most of the other first round games are scheduled for Saturday.
The first rounds in detail
In total, only two Bundesliga teams are represented in this opening round of the DHB Cup: Bergische HC and GWD Minden, both of which led the 2nd division last season. Another interesting aspect is that HBW Balingen-Weilstetten, which took third place in the last cup season, is an exception. Bietigheim and Potsdam will compete against each other on Sunday. This encounter promises to be a real highlight!
Let's take a look at the upcoming games: A total of eight matches are planned for Saturday, including Bergische HC against Bielefeld and GWD Minden, which will be a guest at HSG Krefeld Niederrhein. The game between Hildesheim and Nordhorn-Lingen follows on Tuesday.
