Saxony-Anhalt strengthens security: More protection for Jewish communities!
Dessau-Roßlau, Deutschland - On July 8, 2025, the state government of Saxony-Anhalt and the Jewish communities signed a new security state contract that is intended to significantly strengthen the protection of Jewish institutions and ways of life in the region. Prime Minister Dr. Reiner Haseloff (CDU) laid together with residents of the Jewish communities, including Inessa Myslitska and Dr. Alexander Wassermann, the foundation for improved protection. This happens against the background of the rising security concerns in the Jewish community, which are still exacerbated by recently collected data on anti -Semitic incidents.
The need for the contract change was particularly supported by the construction of new synagogues in Magdeburg and Dessau-Roßlau as well as expected cost increases for the guard service. The existing annual amount of 50,000 euros per synagogue will be dynamic from 2027 to adapt to the increasing salaries of the civil servants. In addition, the contract term was extended from five to ten years, which improves predictability for the Jewish communities. This agreement is the result of conversations that were conducted after the attack on the synagogue in Halle in 2019, and aims to create a safe environment for Jewish life, such as [Mz.de] (https://www.mz.de/lokal/dessau-rosslau/sachsen-anhalt-staats contract-Mehr-fur-fur-der-judische-gemeinden-4080896) reports.
A worrying increase in anti -Semitic incidents
The situation in Germany remains tense. According to Rias's annual report, an incredible 4,782 anti -Semitic incidents were registered in 2023, which corresponds to an increase of almost 83 % compared to the previous year. In a survey, 76 % of the Jewish citizens surveyed stated that they find life as a Jew or Jew in their city more insecure. Since the terrorist attack of Hamas on Israel on October 7, 2023, 2,787 anti -Semitic incidents have been documented. These terrifying numbers throw a shadow about progress, which is to be achieved through contracts such as the new security state contract, such as Jewish general.
The managing director of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, Daniel Botmann, emphasizes the growing uncertainty and fear in the Jewish community. Many people are increasingly avoiding the visit of Jewish events from this concern. Felix Klein, the anti -Semitism officer, has described the numbers as catastrophic and demands an addition to the Criminal Code in order to decide to counter anti -Semitism.
a step in the right direction
Although the challenges are great, the new security state contract is an important step to protect Jewish life in Saxony-Anhalt. The improved security framework will not only protect the synagogues, but also create a safe environment for a community that has come under great pressure in recent years. The signatories of the new contract see this an opportunity to offer the Jewish population a feeling of security and support in their way of life, while at the same time underlining how important it is to promote civil society projects and democratic culture.
The continuing efforts of the state of Saxony-Anhalt to strengthen the protection of the Jewish communities are no coincidence. The experience of the recent past shows that vigilant and becoming active is necessary. So it remains to be hoped that further steps will follow to create an environment in which Jewish life can bloom and that such initiatives work into the entire society.
