Accident on the B187: 64-year-old injured, 60,000 euros in damage!

On Tuesday, September 30, 2025, a speed check was carried out on the B 187 in Holzdorf in the Wittenberg district. The officers discovered 34 violations, while a total of 390 vehicles were measured. The maximum permitted speed was only 30 km/h. One vehicle that particularly caught the eye was traveling at 56 km/h, significantly exceeding the speed limit. At first glance, this may seem like an everyday inspection, but it shows that road safety remains a top priority, especially in the context of increasing traffic congestion in the country.

At the same time, a serious accident occurred on the same day on the BAB 9 between the Dessau-Süd junction and Thurland. A 64-year-old driver of an Audi veered off the road to the left at around 12:27 p.m. and collided with the center guardrail. The vehicle skidded and came to a stop facing the direction of travel. Fortunately, the driver was slightly injured and was able to continue driving after being medically examined on site. The total damage from the accident is estimated at around 60,000 euros. The exact cause of the accident is still unclear.

Statistical background on traffic accidents

A look at the general traffic data shows that around 2.5 million road traffic accidents were recorded in Germany in 2024. This represents a decrease compared to previous years, while the number of accidents resulting in property damage is increasing. What is particularly alarming is that the number of personal injury accidents remains at levels reminiscent of 1955 figures. The goal of “Vision Zero”, no traffic fatalities by 2050, is clear here.

In 2024 there was a dramatic decline in traffic deaths in Germany, from 19,193 in 1970 to 2,770 last year. Despite this positive development, the downward trend has slowed since the early 2010s. What is particularly noteworthy is that 40% of alcohol-related accidents resulted in personal injuries, resulting in 198 deaths and 17,776 injuries.

In summary

The latest statistics and incidents on German roads make one thing clear: road safety is still an important issue for all road users. Whether through speed enforcement or awareness campaigns, continuous efforts are needed to make roads safer. This also includes better infrastructure and making drivers aware of possible dangers. The state plays a central role here by reacting to current trends and adapting measures in legislation, traffic education and road construction. In this way, accidents and their serious consequences should be further minimized in the future.
