Five years of music from here: The MDR KULTUR festival in the Funkhaus!
The music scene in Germany is pulsating - not least thanks to the numerous festivals that take place all over the country. MDR KULTUR is bringing a very special event to the stage on November 14, 2025 at the Funkhaus Halle: the “Music from Here” festival. This simultaneously celebrates five years of successful music reporting and gives regional artists the chance to introduce themselves to a broad audience. As MDR KULTUR reports, listeners can watch live on the radio while six great acts give their best.
Among the up-and-coming talents are Klängels Rowell from Jena, the trio that combines modern sounds with tradition, and the Leipzig band Charlemagne, known for their clever lyrics and variety of genres. Betterov from Bad Salzungen, who is attracting attention with his upcoming album “Große Kunst” in November, is also part of the line-up. There is also Lori Usai from Meißen, whose style is inspired by R'n'B and indie pop, as well as the poetic project Das Paradies by Florian Sievers from Halle and the band Hotel Rimini, who impress with intelligent lyrics. Ellen Schweda and Jan Kubon will moderate the evening, which further enhances the event.
A festival with great importance
But music festivals are an important factor for culture and economy not only in Halle, but also throughout Germany. A new study shows that there are around 1,800 music festivals in Germany that not only act as cultural meeting places, but also create jobs and are particularly important in rural regions. State Minister Wolfram Weimer emphasizes that festivals have a high level of social relevance and that many young talents can start their careers on these stages. The proportion of young artists in the programs is an impressive 40%, which underlines the importance of festivals as talent incubators.
With the festival funding fund, which will also be anchored in the 2025 federal budget, those responsible want to specifically support the specific needs of the festivals. These initiatives show how important the state considers the festivals, not only to promote culture, but also to strengthen the regional structure.
More than just music
Personal encounters between audience and artists are what characterizes the MDR KULTUR and MDR SPUTNIK concerts, which are scheduled to take place from November 13th to December 16th, 2024. Here listeners have the opportunity to get up close and personal with music stars and up-and-coming acts. Another highlight are the live broadcasts on the radio and the recordings in the ARD audio library. Tickets can only be won as part of the radio program, which gives the whole thing a special appeal.
The mix of international superstars and talented young artists, such as the jazz and soul singer Lady Blackbird and the successful German band Pankow, shows the stylistic openness of the festivals and their diversity.
With a colorful program and an emphasis on regional artists, the “Music from Here” festival in Halle not only makes a valuable contribution to the cultural landscape, but also shows that the importance of festivals in Germany remains unbroken.
