Harz: 10 years of treetop path – a tourism magnet with a future!
In the Harz, especially in Bad Harzburg, it's all about exciting leisure attractions that not only delight nature lovers, but also families. The Treetop Trail has developed into a real crowd puller over the years. This is not least due to the committed operators, Eva Ronkainen-Kolb and Holger Kolb, who have invested in the systems. The treetop path has just been in operation for ten years, which underlines its attractiveness.
The numbers speak for themselves: every year around 200,000 visitors flock to the 1,000 meter long route, which leads over 20 meters through the treetops. In total, the treetop walk has welcomed over two million visitors since it opened almost a decade ago. These impressive figures make it clear that the attractions in the Harz are very popular and are doing good business. The offer has been supplemented since 2020 by Tree suspension railway, which allows guests to glide through the treetops at up to 15 km/h.
Attractions for everyone
What isn't there to discover? The treetop path offers over 50 experience stations where visitors can learn more about the fascinating nature and culture of the Harz Mountains. 30 different types of trees and bushes are presented here, while the 26 meter high viewing platform with its glass walkway is a popular photo hotspot.
The opening times are also family-friendly: from April to October you can look forward to the attractions between 9:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., and in the winter months even until 4:00 p.m. Accessibility is a priority, which means that strollers and wheelchairs can also use the path without any problems.
Sustainability in focus
In addition to all these exciting offers, there are also critical voices regarding developments in the Harz region. Environmentalists are raising concerns about investments in attractions like the one planned Treetop adventure world, which is planned for 2027, will not always be in harmony with nature. The region has adopted the motto “Sustainable resin… no magic” and sees the need to not only offer fun, but also take responsibility for the environment.
Much emphasis is placed on sustainable development that combines social, ecological and economic aspects. The aim is also to specifically counteract increasing littering and the challenges of climate change, such as forest fires and floods.
In order to do justice to the growing number of visitors, there are also warnings about overloads in restaurants and parking spaces. Nevertheless, the initiators and the tourism association see the lighthouse projects as important for the visibility of the region. They hope to not only strengthen the individual town of Bad Harzburg, but also to bring the entire region into focus.
So it remains to be said: The Harz offers a lot of adventures for the whole family with its attractions, but also demands awareness and responsibility from everyone involved in order to preserve the magic of this unique landscape for future generations.
