Bundeswehr founds sixth regiment for homeland security in Altengrabow!
An exciting development for the security structure of Germany has taken place: the Bundeswehr recently set up its sixth regiment for home protection. This new regiment has its location in Altengrabow in Jerichower Land and will work under the roof of existing home protection company from Berlin, Potsdam, Magdeburg and Klietz. Soldiers of this regiment are intended for operations in Germany, for example in the case of natural disasters or in the case of terrorist attacks, to ensure the safety of the population, such as [MDR] (https://www.mdr.de/nachrichten/sachsen-anhalt/bundeswehr-stell-stellen-heimatschutz- Regiment-auf-102~amp.html).
The soldiers were solemnly put into service in the Schlosspark Möckern. They support the civilian authorities in coping with the crisis and are also required to protect critical infrastructures such as ports, train lines and energy systems. The Bundeswehr thus plays a leading role in maintaining internal security in Germany, which is becoming more and more important in view of the changing security situation in Europe.
A new defensive approach
The formation of the sixth regiment is part of a broader restructuring of the Bundeswehr, which is primarily motivated by the war in Ukraine and the associated geopolitical situation. Defense Minister Boris Pistorius (SPD) has emphasized that the new homeland security division, which will be ready in full force from April 2025, will take on a central role in protecting German infrastructure, as Tagesschau adds.
With an initial strength of around 6,000 soldiers, the homeland security division's tasks will include, among other things, securing troop deployments by allied forces and providing administrative assistance in the event of disasters. This structure is intended to ensure that Germany remains able to act not only in peacetime but also in crisis situations.
A solid basis for the future
Major General Andreas Henne, the highest person responsible for the home protection division, emphasized the need for clear structures and efficient training. The small but powerful unit is supplemented by 60 home protection companies that were previously organized under the state commands. This organization is intended to enable a uniform procedure and coordinated operational planning. Saxony-Anhalt's Prime Minister Reiner Haseloff underlined in the line-up of how important the Bundeswehr is for society and called for a culture of appreciation for the soldiers. At the same time, he called for vigilance and strategic action to preserve peace, which can be found in Walhalla.
With this restructuring, the Bundeswehr pursues the goal of bravely facing the current challenges. It is clear that the home protection forces will be increasingly required in the coming years to secure security in Germany and Europe.
