E-bike theft in Genthin: Police are looking for witnesses!

In the last week the region around Genthin has experienced some interesting events. On October 6th, around 11:30 p.m., an e-bike was stolen on Gröblerstrasse. A 46-year-old cyclist had properly parked and secured his e-bike in a bike rack. When he returned a few hours later, the bike and its lock were gone. The police were informed immediately and a criminal complaint was filed. The e-bike is now being sought, but the thief is still unknown. Sachsen-Anhalt.de reports.

A few days later, on October 7th at 1:00 p.m., the annual bicycle test for the fourth grades of the “Am Weinberg” primary school took place in Gommern. During this test, the technical conditions of the bikes of around 80 participating children were checked. The students also completed a bicycle course to demonstrate traffic rules and demonstrate safe behavior on the road. This test is not only seen as the end of traffic education, but is also an important part of preparing children for driving in traffic. It is often the case that children in Germany are only allowed to ride on the road or cycle path when they are ten years old, usually after successfully completing the cycling test. Life and education informed that many exams were drastically reduced during the Corona crisis, but such events are now being held regularly again.

Important traffic rules for young cyclists

The traffic police officer who teaches the children during traffic education makes them aware of numerous important traffic rules. The children have to learn that they have to pay attention to the right before the left at unmarked intersections and that the existing right-of-way regulations apply at sign-posted intersections. Especially in roundabouts, it is important to ensure that whoever is already driving has the right of way. The children are also taught how to react correctly in dangerous situations, for example when turning left or dealing with parked cars and tram tracks. Safe handling of the bike, such as braking and swerving, is also part of the curriculum.

Parallel to these positive developments, however, there was also less positive news: On the same day, on October 7th, at 2:45 p.m., a defective oil hose on a truck caused massive contamination on the B246a between Burg-Ost and the Burg industrial area. The fire brigade was quickly there to remove the oil slick and called for the oil fire brigade, who quickly removed the pollution.

Speed controls in Genthin

On October 8th, speed checks were also carried out on Magdeburger Straße in Genthin. A total of 733 vehicles were measured between 8:40 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. An incredible seven vehicle drivers now have to expect a notice from the Magdeburg Central Fines Office. The fastest driver was measured at 91 km/h - definitely exceeding the permitted maximum speed of 70 km/h. Such controls are important to ensure traffic safety in the region.
