Fairness in focus: Magdeburg player receives Fair Play award
Particularly fair behavior has caused a stir in the local football scene in Magdeburg. The Saxony-Anhalt Football Association (FSA) honored Seyidali Mirzazada from SV Arminia Magdeburg for his outstanding fair play gesture. This special moment was announced on the occasion of the June award, given for the month of May. Mirzazada was acting during a game in the leisure men's city class when heated exchanges broke out between the players. A player from the home team was punished with a yellow-red card before half-time.
Arminia's goal came in the 42nd minute and was initially supposed to be counted as normal. But the referee Peter von Elstner couldn't see the goal clearly. Several home team players informed him that the goal had been scored by hand. Seyidali Mirzazada came forward and confirmed this when asked by the referee. Consequently, the referee decided on a direct free kick for the guests, and the game ended with a fair 1-1. The FSA congratulated Mirzazada and hopes his behavior will make other players think and inspire.
The values of fair play in sport
Fair play is much more than just following the rules; it is an ethical stance that promotes respect and decency in sport. Loud Spolex Fair play includes aspects such as self-control, honesty and dealing with opponents and fellow players in a spirit of partnership. The principles also include equal opportunities and fair behavior in both victory and defeat. These are values that have been shaped over the centuries, including by the ancient Olympic Games.
With these beliefs in mind, the German Olympic Society e.V. (DOG) also promotes fairness among young people through the fair play award “Young, sporty, FAIR”. In 2024, this prize will be awarded for the 13th time to honor positive sporting gestures and projects by young people aged 12 to 19. The application deadline is December 31, 2024, and the prizes will go to the winners' sports clubs or schools.
Opportunities for the future
The FSA's awarding of fair play gestures is intended not only to create recognition, but also to increase awareness of fair play throughout sport. The association gives out monthly awards and will choose the fair play gesture of the year at the end of the season. Fair behavior can also be reported to the FSA using an online reporting form. Stefanie Dreißig is responsible for the Fair Play awards.
The example of Seyidali Mirzazada shows how important it is to practice fairness in sport. At a time when competitive pressure is often high, such gestures are a real ray of hope. They remind us that respect and fairness are invaluable in sport and beyond.
