Henry Berg: New board member of 1. FC Magdeburg appointed!

On July 2, 2025, 1. FC Magdeburg decided on a new direction: Henry Berg was appointed to the executive board. The place that was previously occupied by Simone Borris was now taken by Berg after a representative from Magdeburg FFC was initially scheduled, but he was not available. After careful consideration, the association's executive committee chose Berg, who can draw on extensive experience from his voluntary work on the economic advisory board and as a former professional footballer. “I am very happy about this opportunity and am happy to contribute my knowledge,” explained Berg, who is well acquainted with the processes of the club and its employees.

Jörg Biastoch, President of 1. FC Magdeburg e.V., is enthusiastic about the new appointment. "Henry not only brings sporting expertise, but also entrepreneurial know-how. That will be of great benefit to our club," said Biastoch. Matthias Niedung, Chairman of the Supervisory Board, announced that the decision to appoint Berg was made unanimously. His goal will be to further strengthen and develop the sporting area and the youth performance center (NLZ).

An important step for youth development

The NLZ of 1. FC Magdeburg plays a central role in the development of young talent. The construction of a new functional building is currently on the agenda, which is being funded by the state of Saxony-Anhalt with more than 2.15 million euros. Interior Minister Tamara Zieschang handed over the funding decision, with this new building being classified as one of the most important funding projects in the state this year.

The new building, which will be the heart of the NLZ, is designed to promote young talent. In addition to changing rooms, training rooms and offices are also planned, which will offer optimal conditions for the training and development of young players. The following facilities will be realized here on two floors: eight changing rooms, sanitary areas, weight and athletic rooms, storage rooms and a video analysis room.

Sustainability in focus

The aspect of sustainability is particularly pleasing: the functional building will be equipped with a photovoltaic system and a battery storage system, which will optimize the company's own consumption of electricity. With this measure, 1. FC Magdeburg not only focuses on supporting young athletes, but also on responsibility towards the environment.

Overall, it shows that 1. FC Magdeburg is on a very promising path with the appointment of Henry Berg and the planned expansion of the NLZ. It remains exciting to see how these developments will affect the club and future talent.
