Magdeburg's railway chaos: train cancellations and annoyed travelers at the main station!

This morning, July 19, 2025, the platform at Magdeburg Central Station was filled with travelers early. At 7:25 a.m. many were waiting for their trains, but a regional express that was canceled caused discontent: the RE 30 to Halle, which was supposed to leave at 7:34 a.m., was canceled without any further explanations or apologies. This unclear situation caused many travelers to look annoyed at their smartphones to check alternative routes and see whether the next train might come faster. Patience was required because the next train wasn't scheduled to leave until an hour later. Fortunately, some had already secured their seats in advance and were able to cool down a little with the working air conditioning.

Interesting scenes also took place: an elderly lady with her grandson watched the movement of the travelers as they waited for their journey. The main train station is not only a transport hub, but also a contact point for art and culture. The exhibition “Bienvenue la France! #5” is currently running in the Moritzhof and can be seen until August 10th. Here, photographs show enjoyment and everyday life from France, captured in beautiful landscapes and special moments.

Cultural offers and events

But the city has even more to offer: in the puppet theater Villa p. An impressive collection of figures awaits visitors by the end of the week. With over 1,200 puppets and objects on more than 650 square meters, guests can immerse themselves in the world of puppetry. There is also an exciting special exhibition that deals with “Narrative Objects – digital excavations in the puppetry collection”. The opening hours are Wednesday to Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., so there is also time for a visit in the afternoon.

Another highlight is coming up next Saturday: The Yacht Harbor Open-Air Festival will open its doors from 3 p.m. and promises an entertaining program with live acts on the lake stage. If you want to secure your tickets, you should do so in advance for 20 euros; at the box office they cost 25 euros. A visit to the festival could be worthwhile, not only because of the music, but also because of the summer atmosphere at the marina.

Travel planning and mobility service

For all those who have limited mobility, the Deutsche Bahn mobility service center offers support in planning their journey. From Monday to Friday, passengers can request help between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m., and on weekends from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The services range from organizing personal service when boarding, changing and disembarking to assistance in booking a lift for wheelchairs. Registration should ideally be done the day before to avoid possible waiting times.

Whether waiting for the next train or exploring the cultural offerings in Magdeburg - there is always something to experience. Especially in the summer, when concerts, exhibitions and other events ensure that the city remains lively. So if you haven't planned anything for this weekend, you now have some interesting options that will make your heart beat faster!
