Summer festival in Magdeburg: Gysi & Co. for social justice!

On June 24th in Magdeburg-Buckau it will be “Hello, summer party!” and it promises to be an exciting event. The festival is held in the datsche, where the discussion session based on “Mission Silberlocke” will take place from 6 p.m. The prominent participants include Gregor Gysi, the top candidate of the Berlin Left for the 2025 federal election, as well as Dietmar Bartsch and Bodo Ramelow. The event is free for anyone interested; Admission is from 5 p.m.

The reason for the summer festival is clear: it is about the election campaign for the federal election, which will take place on February 23, 2025. Gysi and his colleagues plan to address important issues such as social justice and living conditions in East Germany. In an interview with rbb24, Gysi explains the need for a rethink in dealing with US President Donald Trump and calls for a sovereign relationship between Germany and the USA. The creation of a nationwide rent cap to ensure affordable housing is also high on his agenda.

Social justice in focus

“We need more social justice and a fairer tax policy,” emphasizes Gysi and is confident that the Left will return to an integral part of the Bundestag with an impressive increase in votes of 8.8 percent. This could be a significant sign of the political mood for the left, which is not only grappling with the challenges of the housing crisis but also wants to actively oppose fascism.

In the run-up to the festival, the latest developments surrounding citizens' money are also of great importance. According to Deutschlandfunk, around 14 million people in Germany are affected by poverty. Citizens' money is interpreted differently in the election programs. While the SPD promotes it as a tax-financed basic security, the Left sees it as an opportunity to introduce a sanction-free minimum security that could support low-income families.

Current challenges and possible solutions

A central concern is combating child poverty through a comprehensive package of measures. The Left is planning to counteract this with a monthly child benefit of 379 euros and the introduction of basic child benefits. Other parties such as the Union are aiming to abolish citizens' money and replace it with a new basic security. In return, they are demanding savings and an asset check from the first day of basic security.

The summer festival evening will be accompanied musically by the DJ duo Lackschuh & Barfuß and promises to offer a relaxed setting for in-depth conversations and discussions. From 6 p.m., the evening will become a place for exchange where citizens can bring their concerns directly to politicians.

Magdeburg is ready for a lively evening full of ideas and views that will shape political events. Don't miss this opportunity and bring your questions!
