Driving with alcohol at 1.8 per mille: Police catch driver in Hettstedt!

An exciting Thursday and Friday in Hettstedt, where the police recorded several operations. A driver who was visibly under the influence of alcohol was checked on Johannisstrasse on Thursday afternoon. A smell of alcohol could already be detected during the check, and the result of the breath alcohol test revealed an alarming level of 1.8 per mille. The driver had to undergo a blood sample while police secured his license and filed a complaint. The dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol should not be underestimated: According to the Goslar Institute, there were around 38,771 accidents under the influence of alcohol in Germany in 2022 - a worrying increase of 19 percent compared to the previous year. This suggests that there is an urgent need for action here, because with a blood alcohol limit of 1.1 you are considered absolutely unfit to drive and must expect significant legal consequences, including high fines and points in Flensburg.

Later on Friday morning, around 12:10 a.m., the Hettstedt volunteer fire department went out to extinguish a fire in used clothing and glass containers on Puschkinstrasse. Another glass container was damaged. The cause of the fire has now been investigated: The investigators are trying to clarify whether it was deliberate arson or an accident. In fact, fire cause investigation plays a central role in determining whether or not a fire is the result of a crime the TÜV Süd fire protection information portal explained. Among other things, criminalistic procedures and forensic methods are used to rule out or confirm human error.

On the same night, an attempt to break into a garage in Sonnenweg was reported in Eisleben, which luckily failed. However, there was damage to the garage door, which is now being investigated by the police. In addition, unknown perpetrators stole tools and empties from a cellar on Rathenaustraße on Friday morning. The police are asking the public for any information about these incidents.

Another incident occurred in the south of Harz, where a car collided with a deer on the L151 between Bennungen and Roßla on Friday morning. The deer did not survive the accident, but there was also damage to the driver's vehicle. Such wildlife accidents are not uncommon in rural areas and require special attention from road users.
