Speeders in the act: Police report 3,056 violations during checks!

In the period from August 4th to 10th, 2025, increased speed controls took place in Saxony-Anhalt as part of the ROADPOL control week “Speed II”. The Halle (Saale) Police Department has now published a comprehensive assessment, which has been working for several years with the aim of making the streets safer for all road users. Today, more than ever, speed is a decisive factor in serious traffic accidents. Even minor speeding can have serious consequences, so that increased controls in various places seem unavoidable, as Hallanzeiger reports.

A total of 128 checkpoints were set up in the districts of Burgenlandkreis, Saalekreis, Mansfeld-Südharz as well as in the urban area of Halle (Saale) and on motorway sections. Almost 95,000 vehicles were checked, which underlines the high relevance of the campaign. The result is impressive: a total of 3,056 speeding violations were recorded using mobile technology and a further 968 violations were documented using enforcement trailers.

Worrying statistics

The numbers speak for themselves: in the few days of inspections from Monday to Tuesday alone, 1,030 violations were identified. The fastest driver was driving a VW on the A9 motorway near Droyßig at an incredible 167 km/h, where only 100 km/h is allowed. The detailed statistics of the speed controls show that 8,384 vehicles were measured on the A9 towards Munich, with 351 registered violations, while on the A9 towards Berlin there were as many as 460 violations with 6,390 vehicles checked.

  • A9, Droyßig, Richtung München: 8.384 Fahrzeuge, 351 Verstöße
  • A9, Droyßig, Richtung Berlin: 6.390 Fahrzeuge, 460 Verstöße
  • A14, Löbejün: 3.458 Fahrzeuge, 41 Verstöße
  • A38, Bad Lauchstädt: 3.096 Fahrzeuge, 10 Verstöße
  • A38, Allstedt: 3.537 Fahrzeuge, 90 Verstöße
  • A38, Sangerhausen: 1.730 Fahrzeuge, 38 Verstöße

The police not only carried out speed measurements, but also organized traffic educational talks with drivers who were driving too fast on the streets. This philosophy also continues against the background of the 2024 traffic safety data. According to the Federal Ministry of Transport, thousands die in traffic accidents every year. Last year we counted 2,770 traffic deaths - a decrease of 2 percent compared to the previous year, but still unacceptable.

An appeal to all road users

Given these worrying statistics, police are appealing to all road users to adhere to the applicable speed limits. Improving road safety is seen as a concern for society as a whole that can only be achieved through the cooperation of citizens, our state and the responsible institutions. There is a well-known saying: “Safer on the road – better arrival!” and that very thought should remain in the back of our minds as we hit the streets.
