Rockharz Festival 2025: Metal party a complete success despite the heat wave!
Another chapter in the history of Rockharz Festival was recently written in picturesque Ballenstedt. The festival, which can now look back on over 30 years, ended this year after a week full of unforgettable music and with more than 50 bands that made the hearts of metal fans beat faster on two stages. At temperatures over 35 degrees Celsius, the more than 25,000 expected visitors were offered a lot not only in terms of music, but also in terms of safety.
Organizers reported a “particularly smooth” festival, which also took place during the first heatwave of the year. To ensure guests have a pleasant time, water cannons were set up to cool off and additional shaded areas and water points were set up. Around 700 helpers, including numerous paramedics, ensured that all visitors were well looked after and safety was always guaranteed.
Accessibility and inclusion
Particularly noteworthy was the focus on accessibility this year. Wheelchair-accessible paths and barrier-free sanitary facilities, as well as special platforms on the stages, made the festival convenient for everyone, while a separate inclusion camping area with nursing care was set up. Such measures are not only commendable, they also show that Rockharz Festival responds to the needs of all festival visitors.
The roots of Rockharz go back to the early 1990s, when the event began as a small concert in Osterode am Harz. Over the years, the festival has developed into one of the largest metal open air events in Germany and has been a fixture in the festival calendar ever since. The double stage, which has been active in Ballenstedt since 2009, ensures that there are no overlaps in the performances, which makes the entire planning process much easier.
Headliners and outlook
This year, top acts like King Diamond and Powerwolf thrilled the crowd, who were looking for not only music but also a communal experience. Advance sales for the upcoming Rockharz Festival 2026 will start on Monday - a sign of the ongoing popularity of this event.
For the future, the festival plans, among other things, to switch to tank beer in order to further reduce its carbon footprint. In addition, the festival's waste concept will be continued with the “Happiness in Cans” campaign, in which deposit bottles are collected and the proceeds go to social projects. With a wide range of safety measures - from an accident assistance center to the new mobile care container for people with disabilities - the Rockharz is well prepared for the coming years.
For all festival fans and those who want to become one, it remains to be seen what surprises next year will have in store - it remains exciting in Ballenstedt!
