Drunk driving: a growing problem
Another alarming event occurred last night in Kabelsketal. There, police officers discovered a vehicle with a running engine and a sleeping driver in the Eichenallee intersection. Next to the driver they found a half-full beer bottle, indicating the night's drinking. A voluntary breath alcohol test showed a worrying 1.26 per mille. The driver then had to hand over his driver's license and was taken to the hospital to have a blood sample taken.
The influence of alcohol is not just a problem in Saxony-Anhalt. HowTagesschau.dereported, there were a total of over 970 accidents with alcohol-related injuries in Hesse in 2024, which even ended fatally in 12 cases. The dangers on the roads
Statistics show that not only alcohol, but also driving too fast and inadequate safety distance are common causes of accidents. In Hesse, one in five accidents occurred due to following too closely.
