Saxony-Anhalt is investing 4.3 million euros in green hydrogen!
Today there is exciting news from Saxony-Anhalt! The expansion of green hydrogen for industry is being strongly promoted. Energy and Environment Minister Armin Willingmann (SPD) recently presented an impressive funding notice worth 4.3 million euros in Leuna. This money will support the construction of an electrolyzer at the chemical company Linde, which is essential for the production of green hydrogen. This sustainable energy source is obtained by splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen and plays a key role in industry for future generations.
Green hydrogen is produced from renewable energies such as wind and solar energy, while its gray counterpart is produced from natural gas. So it's clear: the future is green! But not everything is going smoothly, because at the beginning of the year MDR reported that several hydrogen projects in Saxony-Anhalt had stalled. For example, Mibrag has postponed the construction of a large electrolyzer at the Profen site indefinitely.
Opportunities for funding
But the positive momentum continues! Saxony-Anhalt not only promotes the expansion of hydrogen plants, but also investments in measures for the production, storage, transport and distribution of green hydrogen from renewable energy sources. According to Subventa, subsidies of up to 45 percent are possible, which should be quite attractive for many companies.
This funding can be used for a variety of projects, including:
- Anlagen zur Wasserstofferzeugung
- Stationäre Wasserstoffspeicheranlagen
- Neubau von Wasserstoffleitungen und -netzen
- Umwidmung bestehender Erdgasleitungen für Wasserstoffnutzung
The aim of these measures? Green hydrogen is to be used as process heat and a base material for products such as ammonia and methanol - there is really something to be said!
The challenge of planning
However, it remains unclear how many projects in Germany have actually been withdrawn or canceled. The federal government is supporting the ramp-up of the hydrogen economy with three individual plans, 28 titles and 45 programs. So there is still a lot to do to get the domestic hydrogen economy going and ensure that Germany remains on the world map as an innovator in this area.
The federal and state governments are called upon to create clearer framework conditions so that such projects do not come to a standstill. The ambitions are high, and with a good knack for making the right decisions, Saxony-Anhalt could soon be a pioneer in hydrogen technology!
