Fire on the field: Straw press burns at 40 degrees - large -scale use of the fire brigade!
Stendal, Deutschland - A dramatic incident occurred today, on July 2, 2025, on the Hüselitzer mountain between Lüderitz and Tangermünde. According to Volksstimme broke out around 2 p.m. while harvesting a fire in a straw press attack. Plagued by temperatures around 40 degrees Celsius and windy conditions, the use for the fire brigades became a real challenge.
In total, around 45 hectares of agricultural area burned down, including 30 hectares of a harvested stubble bag and 15 hectares of fermented field. Fortunately, the straw press towing vehicle could be left behind in good time and brought to safety. The wind turbines in the area remained undamaged because the operators were informed immediately.
emergency services in constant stress
The extinguishing work lasted over four hours, while firefighters from different locations, including Bellingen/Hüselitz, Lüderitz/Groß Schwarzlosen, Tangerhütte, Stegelitz, Ringfurth and Sandfurth, were in action. But not only the high temperatures put the forces, the windy conditions also made the extinguishing work even more difficult. The emergency services were on site to protect the emergency services, and yet there was an injured fire department.
Another example shows that the fire was not the only one in agricultural fields. In the municipality of Reichenbach Oberlausitz, where a similar fire was triggered by a burning straw press, 40 comrades from seven local weirs had to come to contain the fire. According to , the fire spread to a stubble field, which due to the wind accelerated the spread.
fire brigades and farmers: hand in hand
The support on site was essential. Farmers not only helped with the extinguishing work, but also provided their technology. To prevent again, the emergency services used special network agents. In the meantime, the state road S111 is fully blocked as a result of the fires.
The concerns about fires in agriculture are not new, and the causes are diverse. As Agrarheute , there are no comprehensive statistics on agricultural fires. The "Stall fire" initiative addresses this gap and tries to collect information from different federal states. According to an investigation, electricity and arson are common causes, although human misconduct should not be underestimated.
Today's incidents in Lüderitz and Reichenbach impressively show the great danger of fires on agricultural areas and how important a quick reaction from the fire brigade and a cooperation with farmers are.
