Discover the Printed Gallery: Kunstreproduktion at the MLU!
In the coming week, the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg will open its goals for an exciting new exhibition: "The printed gallery. Graphics in the university". This expects art enthusiasts on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at 6 p.m. in the Löwen building, in the special exhibition space of the university. The exhibition illuminates the possibilities and challenges in the reproduction of works of art and is the result of a seminar at the Institute for Art History, Archaeologies and Classic Antiquity, in cooperation with the central curative.
The exhibition becomes a real eye-catcher, because it not only shows historical print graphics from the copper stitch cabinet of the University of Halle-one of the oldest and most important print graphics museums in Germany, founded as early as 1820-but also offers works by the artist Moritz Götze, which is known for his unique visual worlds. Götze is often inspired by historical works of art and will thus enrich the overall experience of the exhibition.
insight into art science
Six master students in art history have dealt intensively with pressure graphics and their history of origin as well as the various reproductive methods. This student work will take a special focus in the exhibition and invites visitors to dive deeper into the matter. The Hallesche Kunstverein will also be represented with a presentation in the adjacent copper stitch cabinet.
For all curious people, there are guided tours of the exhibition during the long night of sciences on July 4th. These take place between 5:30 p.m. and 6.30 p.m. and from 9:30 p.m. to 10.30 p.m. So everyone has the opportunity to learn even more about the fascinating background of the artificial productions.
versatile art mediation
The exhibition is not only a pleasure for the eyes, but also shows how important art and cultural mediation at universities is. With its offer, the MLU contributes to strengthening the art scene and promoting young talents. Students are not only equipped with theoretical knowledge, but can also use their knowledge and implement their own projects. A word that often falls in this context is "mediation": It is about not only to see art, but also to understand and pass it on, which is implemented in many courses for cultural studies throughout Germany, for example at the University of Paderborn, where the course "Art and Art Education" is offered. Further details can be found in the programs of the respective universities here or here .
The exhibition "The Printed Gallery. Graphics in the University" can be seen until November 9, 2025, always from Wednesday to Sunday between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. and admission is free. If you want to register for the opening, you can do so at kustodie@uni-halle.de. Do not miss the opportunity to take a look at the world of art and its reproduction - there is something!
