Celebrate in Wittenberg: Luther's wedding and big festival weekend!

There will be big celebrations in Wittenberg again this weekend, as the city festival “Luther's Wedding” awaits visitors with a colorful supporting program that invites you to linger. The ceremony begins today, Friday, June 13, 2025, the wedding anniversary of Martin Luther and Katharina von Bora in 1525. This special occasion is duly celebrated every year, and the program details can be found on lutherhochzeit.de.

On Saturday, June 14th, in addition to the celebrations in Wittenberg, there will also be a children's and family festival in the youth club “Im Dickicht” in Wörlitz. Here the little ones can get active on a play street while parents relax with coffee and cake. At the same time, a summer festival will take place in the Diest-Hof in Seyda, which begins at 2 p.m. with a reception by the marching band and a prayer by Deacon Guido Merten. The theater group “The Lucky Rockets” will also perform, and a special exhibition entitled “The Dangerous Blacksmith” will provide additional entertainment.

Cultural highlights in the Dessau Zoo

The Anhaltisches Theater Dessau offers a fantastic open-air experience in the zoo. On Friday evening at 7.30 p.m. the powerful opera “Macbeth” by Giuseppe Verdi will be performed in concert with the artists Martin Bárta and Iordanka Derilova. And that's not all - a second performance will take place on Sunday, June 15th, also at 7:30 p.m.

It will also be fun with Götz Alsmann, who will take the stage on Saturday at 7.30 p.m. to present hits from the years 1910 to 1965. Another highlight is the theater performance “The Servant of Two Masters” on the island of Stein in Wörlitz, which is performed on Saturday evening and Sunday. For music lovers big and small, the Capriccio concert at the Kupferhammer in Thießen on Saturday at 8 p.m. is a must. Here, guests can expect iconic Eastern rock and international hits - depending on the weather, comfortably in the museum courtyard or in the Hammersaal.

Craftsmanship at the Wittenberg pottery market

Another integral part of the Wittenberg event calendar is the Wittenberg pottery market, which is known for its size and beauty. At the market square and churchyard of the town church, ceramists and pottery workshops present their craftsmanship. On Saturday, the market is traditionally opened by the mayor at 10 a.m., accompanied by the ceremonial entry of the potters. Visitors can look over the shoulders of the artisans at the pottery wheel and bring colorful creations home.

The Wittenberg pottery market is not only a feast for the eyes, but also a cultural highlight of the region. The next edition of the market will take place on September 27th and 28th, 2025, followed by annual dates until 2030.

The city festival “Luther’s Wedding” and the numerous other events offer a wonderful opportunity to immerse yourself in the history and culture of Wittenberg. Visitors are welcome to enjoy these festivals and experience the lively atmosphere of the city. Every year Wittenberg shows that it is a city full of life and tradition.
