Hänicher summer film night: anniversary gala despite the rain and film fun!
The anticipation in Gräfenhainichen is great as the city is preparing for the tenth Hänich Summer Film Nights. This special event will take place on Friday, August 1st at the popular outdoor stage. The event is organized by the city of Gräfenhainichen in close cooperation with the Wittenberg association “Exil” and supported by the BSG activist Gräfenhainichen. In the past, the summer cinema has attracted over 300 film enthusiasts. Even though the last performances did not quite reach record numbers due to the weather, the event still has a loyal visitor base. Some rain also contributed to the fact that visitors sometimes had to go to the neighboring gymnasium, but still often opted for the open-air performances, as [mz.de](https://www.mz.de/lokal/wittenberg/sommerfilmnacht- Feiert-jubilaum-auch-bei-regen-an-der-freilichtbuhne-4084150) reports.
This year the German film “Old White Man” is on the program. The satirical comedy, which premiered in October 2024, is directed by none other than Jan Josef Liefers. He shines in the lead role as Heinz Helmich, supported by Elyas M’Barek in another important role. The film tells the story of a family man who does everything he can to convince his boss and his colleagues of his modern side at a dinner - in the hope of not falling into the cliché trap of the "old white man". The evening turns deadly funny as the façade of the politically correct family crumbles. The film's running time is 114 minutes and features a colorful interplay of diverse characters who bring diverse and unexpected twists to the plot. More information about the film can be found at film.at.
A feast for film fans
The summer film night not only promises an entertaining film experience, but is also part of a broader film cultural context in Germany. Film festivals such as the Berlinale or the Cologne Short Film Festival attract numerous visitors every year. The latter, which takes place in November, presents around 100 short films from a wide range of genres and offers guests the opportunity to exchange ideas with filmmakers. It's not just about the big blockbusters, but also about the small, fine productions that often hit the nerve of the times, like the Hänich Summer Film Night. The International Silent Film Festival in Bonn and the Nippon Connection Film Festival in Frankfurt also promote the diversity of film culture in Germany, as germany.travel shows.
With an entry price of just 7 euros for the screening, which starts at 9.30 p.m., the summer film night remains affordable for a wider audience. So when the film “Old White Man” flickers across the screen on August 1st, it can be expected that the open-air stage will be well filled despite any capricious weather. If you have a good knack for entertaining, you definitely shouldn't miss this event!
