Renaissance for the Bleesern court stud: thanks to donations and monument conservation!
at the Bleesern court stud, a historic jewel on the edge of Seegrehna, continues with great steps. The listed stud that looks back on a long and eventful history is currently supported by the German Foundation for Monument Protection (DSD), which supports renovation work with a new funding contract of 29,000 euros for the conclusion of the roof work on the east wing of the southern part. This article is part of a comprehensive commitment to maintain and maintain the over 660 monuments in Saxony-Anhalt, which are funded by the DSD. It is particularly gratifying that Bleesern has been a listed building since 2021 and has thus received official recognition for its cultural and historical importance. In 2025, the DSD also celebrates its 40th anniversary, which emphasizes the importance of such monument projects again.
The court stud, whose roots go back to 1486, was built in the early baroque construction between 1675 and 1686, so that it is considered the oldest dated example of the “tame stud” in Europe. This special architecture, designed by Wolf Caspar von Klengel, represents a time when horse breeding became a courtly representation task. The origins of the stud even go back to the 12th century, which also underlines its importance as a monument. Originally emerged from a Burgward and mentioned since 1379, Bleesern served the Saxon Elector as an elegant courtyard in the 15th to 18th centuries.
a symbol of history
A look at the impressive solid buildings with brick and quarry stone masonry as well as the striking hipped roofs bring the history of the court alive. The buildings are still testimony to the princely architecture, in which stems were created as closed building ensembles, similar to locks. Bleesern has gone through some conversions over the centuries. Elector Friedrich III. (the wise) and later August the strong shaped the stud, which was initially used as a court stitch until 1722 and then went through various uses, including as a mule stud and horse breeding station.
The post -war period was a dark phase for the stud when the system was empty and fell into expression. But the Förderverein Hofstud Bleesern e. V., founded in 2012, took over the initiative for the renovation and revitalizes the monument with a lot of commitment. Initial security work was already carried out in 2014 with the participation of the federal government and the state of Saxony-Anhalt, and in the following years the association received awards for its tireless work, including a silver hemisphere for monument protection.
a place of encounter for the future
The future of the Bleesern court stud looks promising. Cultural events, gastronomic offers as well as accommodation for hiking riders and bike tourists are planned. With its historical charm and proximity to nature, the stud will be a place of encounter and relaxation for many visitors. The monument preservation support is supported by the strategies of the home protection movement and the preservation of monuments that have been developed over time in order to preserve such significant buildings for future generations. The maintenance of the historical substance is the focus here so that future generations can experience the history of the court.
It will be exciting to observe how the Bleeders' court is developing. One thing is certain: With the support of initiatives, donors and the DSD, the unique history of this building will continue to be kept alive in the future.
