Wittenberg celebrates Luther's wedding: parade and historical highlights!

On June 15, 2025, the streets of Wittenberg are festively decorated, because the city celebrates the 500th anniversary of the wedding of Martin Luther and Katharina von Bora. On this special weekend, the organizers expect tens of thousands of visitors who can look forward to a colorful “Luther's wedding” city festival. With historical parades and over 2,000 participants in former robes, the atmosphere is shaped by a positive mood. The start took place on Friday, June 13, 2025, with a first ceremony. The festival began at 4:00 p.m., followed by a appearance of the wedding couple at 5:00 p.m. on the market square. Organ sounds should ensure the right setting in the St. Marien town church at 6:00 p.m., while the band Rebell Tell entertained the festival visitors from 10 p.m.

A particularly emotional moment will be the exhibition of Katharina's wedding ring, which is made available from the Leipzig city museum. The wedding ring shows a respectful, unusual design with the Marter tools of Christ and will probably attract many looks before it.
