The excitement is rising: the Lausitz Rally is just around the corner

The Lausitz Rally, the most important gravel race in Central Europe, is attracting numerous motorsport enthusiasts next weekend. The rally opens on Friday afternoon with the iconic starting announcement “3,2,1… gravel” at the picturesque Bärwalder Lake. This event is more than just a competition, it is the largest sporting event in Upper Lusatia and is contested by around 90 drivers from 13 nations. This means that the Lausitz Rally is part of the finale of the German Rally Championship and the DMSB Gravel Rally Cup, which increases interest even further.

The route leads through impressive landscapes with a total length of 155 kilometers, more than 80 percent of which consists of challenging gravel. The rest of the route is asphalt, which increases the challenges for the participants and offers a special attraction for spectators. Eleven spectator points are designated and tickets for these are available online. On Saturday evening, the participants can expect a celebratory award ceremony at the tourist and information center at Bärwalder See.

Motorsport talents and favorites in the race

Among those taking part are the record champion Matthias Kahle and the Polish champion Jakub Matulka. A young talent who is already causing a stir is 19-year-old Swede Adam Grahn, who is considered a contender for a podium place. The competition will be particularly exciting in the RC2 class, where Julius Tannert and Pirmin Winklhofer are eager for their first win of the season in the Škoda Fabia RS Rally2. A look at the overall standings shows that Tannert is currently in third place, only behind Marijan Griebel and Philip Geipel.

But the competition is not only characterized by early favorites, but also by new faces: Tom Kässer and Stephan Schneeweiß are making their debut in the DRM with their vehicles, a Peugeot 208 Rally4. And in the DRM Nationals, too, the clear favorites are Raphael Ramonat and Karina Derda in the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo
