Construction site on Wendischer Strasse: closures and diversions from Monday!

In Bautzen, a lot is happening on Wendischen Strasse. Since the end of June 2025, there has been a construction site that has to do with the expansion of sustainable district heating supply. The work is in full swing and mainly affect the area around the tax office, where the district heating line is installed. Of course, this has an impact on traffic, and the city has already announced that from Monday, July 21, a complete blocking of the Wendische Strasse/Buttermarkt intersection will be blocked. This is expected to continue up to and including July 25th, such as sächsische.de reported.

The work was started on June 30th. They are not only about laying district heating, but also about improvements in the city center. In partial construction phases, the infrastructure on Wendischen Strasse is visibly modernized. Important access roads, such as the Kornstraße and Hinteren Reichenstrasse, can be reached via the Inner Lauenstraße, the main market and meat market. From there, the water -warming measures can be implemented quickly and efficiently. The same applies to access to the Wendischen Straße, which also leads via the butter market on this street, as the city of Bautzen explains in its press release bautzen.de.

disabilities and diversions

As usual with construction projects, traffic disruptions are of course. The one -way regulation between the butter market and Hauensteingasse is canceled, which could ensure temporary relief. Nevertheless, the situation will remain tense, since many diversion routes have to be used sensibly to avoid the limited areas.

The Energie- und Wasserwerke Bautzen GmbH (EWB) emphasizes that the goal of these extensive measures is the continuous general interest and sustainable heat supply. From July 29, 2024, a new route in Heringenstrasse will also start, which is associated with the renewal of a medium -voltage cable and the coordination of fiber optic laying, as the EWB announced in its announcement Ewbaustzen.de. This hopes to avoid latent high energy costs for building owners - especially for new buildings or conversions, district heating is seen as an economically attractive solution.

The work is divided into different construction phases, and during the entire construction period, attention is paid to the accessibility and installation areas for fire brigade and emergency vehicles. The EWB asks for understanding for the inevitable disabilities that the residents and road users will meet during this time.

In short: In Bautzen there is a tight program in the air, which should not only make energy supply more sustainable, but also restructures traffic in the city center. In the coming days and weeks, everyone involved will have to show a good hand with the given circumstances.
