Accident chaos in Bautzen: Three seriously injured in a head-on collision!

A serious traffic accident seriously injured three people in the Bautzen district on Tuesday afternoon. In a dramatic incident, two cars collided head-on, prompting emergency services to respond. This involved a 79-year-old man who was behind the wheel of a vehicle and failed to see oncoming traffic when turning. Also affected were a 25-year-old man who was driving in the second car and a 37-year-old woman who was a passenger of the older driver. All injured people were immediately taken to surrounding hospitals, with a rescue helicopter being deployed. The roads were closed for five hours and the total damage caused amounts to around 50,000 euros, as n-tv reports.

On Monday, September 22nd, 2025, the police reports from Bautzen reached the citizens again. The focus was, among other things, on a VW Golf that was stopped by the police on the main street in Neugersdorf. Strangely enough, there was no one behind the wheel, but a 47-year-old man from the Czech Republic was in the back seat. He was on the police wanted list due to an arrest warrant. A drug test ultimately revealed that the man tested positive for amphetamines. After a blood test, he was taken to the correctional facility Sächsische reported.

Traffic accident statistics give food for thought

In a broader context, the numbers of traffic accidents in Saxony are worrying. According to Saxon police statistics, the number of motorized motorcycle riders involved in accidents rose by 19% to 2,291 in 2024, while motorcyclists even experienced an increase of 20.1%. E-scooters and similar vehicles are also increasingly affected; Here the number of accidents rose by 23.1% to a total of 181 people injured. This increase sheds light on the current traffic situation, which does not shy away from challenges, as Saxony Police notes.

Cars in particular are often the main cause of traffic accidents with personal injuries. They account for around 61% of accidents, followed by cyclists with 19% and motorized two-wheelers with 9.6%. These figures show that there is an urgent need to further improve road safety and make drivers aware of responsible behavior.
