What's going on there? People in Chemnitz are already looking forward to Christmas! On Saturday, November 8th, the Christmas tree for this year's Christmas market will be delivered. This marks the start of the festive preparations. The tree itself comes from the forestry district of the state-owned company Sachsenforst in Eibenstock, more precisely from the Wildenthal district. An impressive 27 meter high spruce tree, estimated to be between 50 and 70 years old, awaits Cologne Christmas market visitors. And as it happens, the exact age is determined after felling based on the annual rings. So the question arises here: How old is this tree really?
The felling of the tree is carried out by the employees of Techno-Farm und Service GmbH. Transport takes place on a low-loader on motorways and federal highways. At the Chemnitz market you will only be able to see around 24 meters of the tree, because the lower part is firmly anchored in a three meter deep ground socket.
Traditional Christmas market
The delivery of the Christmas tree is not only a logistical challenge, but also an event that massively increases the anticipation of the Christmas market. Those interested can shorten the waiting time for the big festival with grilled food and mulled wine at the market.
