Chemnitz: New street cleaning fees decided from 2026!
The Chemnitz city council decided on important changes to street cleaning at its last meeting. These innovations will apply from January 1, 2026 and are aimed at optimizing the cleaning of the city's streets. As part of these changes, a four-week cleaning cycle was introduced for towns and comparable areas with less traffic. The adjusted regulations have been published in the Official Gazette of the City of Chemnitz, and the street directory in the new street cleaning statutes has been updated accordingly.
These adjustments are intended not only to make the streets in Chemnitz cleaner, but also to make the fee structure more fair. The basic fee for street cleaning was set at 90 cents per meter for 2026. In addition, there will be a fee increase of 5.2 to 5.8 percent for the cleaning obligation on sidewalks and in pedestrian zones, depending on the frequency of cleaning. When it comes to road cleaning, citizens can expect an increase of 11.7 to 12.8 percent. All fees will be calculated in accordance with the new regulations, with a one-year period from January 1st to December 31st, 2026.
Comparison with other cities
Street cleaning is an often invisible but important service for many citizens. After all, a clean street contributes significantly to the quality of life in a city. Be it sidewalks, roadways or squares – citizens want a pleasant environment. But the responsibility does not only rest with the city administration. In many cases, residents are also actively required to keep their surroundings clean and report any problems such as overfull waste bins. Complaints can be directed directly to the appropriate departments in the city, and this is where citizen participation comes into play. While new regulations will soon be introduced in Chemnitz, the discussion about street cleaning remains an important topic in many cities. Whatever the reasons for contamination, whether festivals, events or everyday traffic - well-organized street cleaning is essential. The new resolutions in Chemnitz show the will to change and improve, and from 2026 we will be able to reap the first fruits of this initiative. The importance of street cleaning
