Chemnitz becomes a Victorian dream world: Steampunk festival inspires!
Industriemuseum Chemnitz, Chemnitz, Deutschland - On June 29, 2025, the fifth Steampunk festival was celebrated in the Chemnitz industrial museum. The outdoor area turned into a fascinating mix of Victorian flair and futuristic elements, which the visitors kidnapped into another world. BLICK reports from a colorful program that contained imaginative machines, music, theater and dance. A special highlight was the amusing "tea-pot-race"-a race with moving teapots, which not only encouraged the participants: but also encouraged the audience to laugh.
The day started at 10:00 a.m. with a spectacular appearance of the band "The Hot Shots". In addition to other attractions such as jugglers Friedrich and various dance performances, the "Road Brothers" and the band "Off Limits" also performed, which created a mood with extraordinary instruments, including a Didgeridoo. The Industriemuseum Chemnitz has put together this information to illustrate the course of the festival. The joy of the costumed guests was great, they described the event as "Fasching for Great", and Jens Mahlow from the Verein Züngrad & Zylinder e.V. also found the growing interest in the steampunk scene in Chemnitz.
a festival for the whole family
It should be emphasized that the steampunk festival was designed as a family-friendly event. TAG24 informed about the free access to the outdoor area, whereby a museum entry was required for the interior. The numerous hands-on activities, music performances and Gaudi demonstrations captivated numerous visitors and created a happy atmosphere.
Among the guests were also found some costumes who performed with a lot of passion and creativity. Jens and Annett Standich, who were disguised on a large scale, left no doubt that this festival was more than just an event - it became an experience that offered fun for young and old.
cultural highlights in Chemnitz
The Steampunk Festival was not the only event in Chemnitz this weekend. At the same time, the anime fair "Shiroco" took place, which was another magnet with around 1,600 participants and was held for the first time in the larger town hall. This event also showed how versatile the cultural offer is in Chemnitz and sets standards for similar events in the region.
The coming weeks promise for visitors: Inside the industrial museum, exciting experiences with five planned concerts that herald usher in the open-air summer. Particularly noteworthy is the Eurbean Chocolate Festival, which takes place on the first weekend in August and will certainly attract many connoisseurs. As museum director Jürgen Kabus emphasizes, the meadow behind the building is further developed to create a special “third place”.
The combination of historical atmosphere and futuristic elements at the Steampunk Festival has shown that Chemnitz is on the right track to establish itself as a vibrant cultural city that links both tradition and innovation. We are excited to see which creative ideas and festivals the city will have in the future!
