Intercultural Weeks 2025: Celebrate diversity in Chemnitz!
The anticipation in Chemnitz is growing! The city is preparing for this year's Intercultural Weeks, which will take place from September 20th to October 5th, 2025. Under the motto “Home in the Heart – Diversity in Chemnitz”, the Intercultural Weeks offer a colorful range of events that promote cultural exchange and enable entertaining encounters. Mayor Dagmar Ruscheinsky and Migration Commissioner Etelka Kobuß invite you to a press conference on Wednesday, September 10th at 11 a.m. in the press room of the town hall to present further information.
A special highlight is the opening of the Intercultural Weeks on September 20th with a festival of cultures at the market. From 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. an exciting program awaits visitors, which is part of the “haamit heimaten” festival. This festival will take place from September 17th to 21st in Chemnitz and was launched as part of the European Capital of Culture 2025. The city is proud to be home to people from over 140 different nations and with this event is sending a strong signal for cohesion and diversity.
A colorful program for everyone
Since their start in Chemnitz in 1991, the Intercultural Weeks have developed into an important part of cultural life. Numerous events are planned over the two weeks, including theater performances, film screenings, dance courses, country evenings and many more. Here is a brief overview of the highlights:

The goal is clear: to arouse interest in different cultures and to encourage Chemnitz residents to actively participate. Every year, around 5,000 events in almost 700 cities and communities in Germany take part in the Intercultural Weeks. This tradition has existed since 1975, when the event was launched by three Christian churches. (DBK, EKD and Greek Orthodox Church)
Together for a colorful coexistence
Support for the Intercultural Weeks in Chemnitz is guaranteed by parishes, welfare associations, trade unions, educational institutions and migrant organizations. The patron of the Intercultural Weeks, Mayor Sven Schulze, will lead this valuable initiative and is considered an important contact for everyone involved. Because one thing is certain: we can achieve a lot together, and Chemnitz will once again impressively prove this!
