NINERS Chemnitz start with new signings and a new training ground!
A breath of fresh air has arrived in basketball in Chemnitz! While the NINERS trained with the entire squad for the first time in pre-season on Monday, the team will be characterized by exciting new additions and a new training facility. The evening sessions no longer take place in the popular “sauna” area, but in the new location with the illustrious name “Hölle”. Here, where passion and sweat meet, the people of Chemnitz aim high.
But that's not all. A highlight of the new team is Bulgarian international Yordan Minchev, who has been compared to Marko Filipotity, the former Niners star who is moving to Porto this summer. The anticipation for the new season is growing, and with Minchev in the squad there is a breath of fresh air for the Chemnitz team.
New faces and a fan event
The team is in a spirit of optimism as foreign players and other newcomers such as DeAndre Lansdowne, Kaza Kajami-Keane and Jeff Garrett will soon be arriving in Chemnitz. Returnee Aher Uguak is also available to strengthen the team. Even before the first fan event on August 13th, which also celebrates the opening of the new corn maze in Chemnitz-Wittgensdorf, everyone is eagerly awaiting the initial medical examinations of the new squad players.
The corn maze is designed creatively: the floor plans of a basketball court and the club logo attract not only basketball fans, but also families who can look forward to an exciting experience. An official training start will take place on August 14th under coach Rodrigo Pastore, followed by six weeks of preparation with five test games and a big team presentation.
FIBA Europe Cup in view
With a look at the international stage: The NINERS Chemnitz are one of the seeded teams in the upcoming tournament FIBA Europe Cup. The competition is taking a big leap this season: instead of 32 teams, there are now 40 teams competing in the regular season. This starts on October 18, 2023 and ends on April 24, 2024. The NINERS are ready and confident: Last season they won the title against Bahçeşehir Koleji.
The group stage is divided into ten groups, with the ten group winners and the best six runners-up moving on to the next round. The fans can look forward to seeing how their team fares against international competition.
The start of the Bundesliga is imminent
Preparations for the Bundesliga are also in full swing. The start of league play will take place on September 27, 2023 against the reigning champions Ulm. The first home game is on October 2nd against Bamberg, followed by an exciting cup game in the second round against Crailsheim or Gießen on October 14th or 15th.
