Theater Chemnitz inspires: almost 200,000 visitors during the season!

The theater business in Chemnitz really worked hard last season and can now proudly look back on impressive figures. With almost 200,000 visitors to over 830 performances, the audience response was enormous. General Director Christoph Dittrich spoke of a high capacity utilization of around 75 percent. Productions such as “Cabaret,” “My Fair Lady” and “The Nutcracker,” which were almost sold out across the board, were particularly popular. The season came to its crowning conclusion on the Theaterplatz as well as on the Küchwaldbühne and in the garden of the Arthur Cultural Center with performances that thrilled the audience. The plays “Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn”, “The Picture of Dorian Gray” and “Measuring the World” were shown. Radiochemnitz reports that the theater business is going into the summer break brilliantly.

But Chemnitz can point to successes not only in the past season. The new season of the Chemnitz Theater also promises a lot of excitement and entertainment, as the number of visitors is continually increasing. The number of interested parties has increased from 165,000 to 183,000 compared to the previous season. This represents growth of a modest 2 percent, which underlines the positive development in the cultural sector. The performances in the opera house continued to grow in popularity. An example of this is “The Nutcracker,” which now boasts an impressive occupancy rate of 99%. [Chemnitz Inside reports that an exciting mix of tradition and modernity will be offered in the upcoming productions.

New year, new anticipation

The start of the new season is imminent, and those responsible around Dittrich are full of anticipation. The next chapter will open on August 8th with a concert by the Robert Schumann Philharmonic and the MDR Symphony Orchestra. Music lovers can also look forward to the “Classic Classic! – Take The Brass Train” concert at the Schauplatz Eisenbahn Museum on August 15th. And the exciting thing is: viewers can already secure tickets for the performances - during the summer break, these are available both online and by telephone. But be careful: the box office in the opera house will be closed until August 11th, so it's best to take a look at the website straight away to get the tickets you want! Chemnitz2025 emphasizes that the Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025 will provide a breath of fresh air.

There is great anticipation for the upcoming events, and the city itself is also benefiting from its title of Capital of Culture. Barbara Klepsch, Saxon State Minister for Culture, pointed out that the title not only stimulates cultural life, but also stimulates tourism. More and more visitors are being drawn to Chemnitz, especially from the old federal states and Berlin. In addition, the catering and retail sectors are experiencing an upswing. Sven Hertwig from exclusive events has noticed an increase in the number of visitors and speaks of positive effects on all sectors.
