Volksbank Chemnitz defies times of crisis: record values despite challenges!

Chemnitz, Deutschland - What about Chemnitz? The city faces major challenges, but also with exciting opportunities. Despite high energy prices and a weak industrial economy in Germany, Volksbank Chemnitz eG has made remarkable progress. Thanks to a solid strategic plan, the balance sheet total was able to increase by 3.1 percent to EUR 2.265 billion in 2024. The Volksbank not only supports local medium -sized companies with corporate finance, but also shows a clear commitment to the region through its commitment in various social and cultural projects.

This is how over 515,000 euros flowed into initiatives from the fields of education, culture, sport and social issues. The Volksbank also makes an important contribution to the Capital of Culture in Europe Chemnitz 2025, as an official gold sponsor. In view of the project of a possible merger with the United Raiffeisenbank Burgstädt eG, it becomes clear how closely the regional cooperation is being designed. Lending to corporate customers also shows the dynamics in the customer loan business with an increase of 69.9 million euros (+5.0 %).

Capital of Culture in Europe 2025

2025 Chemnitz has been the first German cultural capital of Europe for over a decade. This title not only brings recognition, but also the opportunity to present the city's cultural heritage again. Chemnitz presents itself under the motto "C the Unseen - European Makers of Democracy", and the decision to appoint was unanimously made by the Cultural Ministers' Conference. The city is thus selected for the fourth time in Germany for this title, to Berlin, Weimar and Essen.

To support this big task, companies such as the Niles-Simmons-Hegenscheidt (NSH Group) have faced the side of the city. NSH Group, a globally operating machine tool manufacturer, actively contributes to the visualization of the cultural heritage in Chemnitz. Jörg Hellmann, CFO of the company, emphasizes that sponsorship in the Chemnitz industrial museum should be visible. The planned special exhibition "Tales of Transformation", which will run from April 25 to November 16, 2025, will offer visitors the opportunity to learn more about the development of the city.

A look into the future

The NSH Group attaches particular importance to cultural diversity and creative exchange in the region. The outdoor area of the industrial museum you support is to become a meeting point for company events, events, outdoor cinema and concerts in the Capital of Culture 2025. Such activities are not only a profit for the city, but also look outside the box to draw international attention to Chemnitz.

This fits perfectly with the EU initiative "Cultural Caps in Europe", which was launched in 1985. This not only gives cities that have this title unique recognition, but also financial support, such as the 1.5 million euros that Chemnitz receives creative Europe from the program.

The city has clearly stood out to use this title as best as possible. The basis for this was created in a transparent selection process, which was carried out under the supervision of the state cultural foundation. So whoever thinks that in Chemnitz threatens stagnation, you are huge. Something is happening here and this city is ready for a heyday.

The challenges are great, but Chemnitz has proven a good knack for partnerships and responsibility. So it remains to be seen which other positive developments will come to the city in the coming years.
