From Monday, July 21st, Barbarossastraße in the Kaßberg district of Chemnitz will be completely closed for a period probably until the end of November 2025. This reports View. Several areas of the street are affected by the closure: from Limbacher Straße to Walter-Oertel-Straße and from Agricolastraße to Heinrich-Beck-Straße. Several construction phases are planned in the coming months, which will include Uhlichstrasse, Henriettenstrasse and many adjacent streets. The construction period will be carried out in different phases, with three companies being commissioned to complete the work on time.
Traffic control and diversions
Extensive diversions will be set up for cars and buses. Traffic will be redirected via Limbacher Straße and Franz-Mehring-Straße as well as Ulmenstraße and Zwickauer Straße. Speed limits of 30 km/h apply on the diversion routes. In addition, the traffic lights in these areas will be adjusted or replaced with mobile systems so that everything works smoothly.
Particular attention will be paid to residents and public transport during construction work. CVAG buses will also be rerouted and replacement stops will be set up by July 18th. Despite the construction work, access to the properties and pedestrian traffic will largely remain guaranteed, and disabled parking spaces will be relocated where necessary.
Background and outlook
The planned work is not only a challenge, but also brings long-term benefits. The aim is to connect the Kaßberg and Altendorf districts to the modern district heating network. In total, around 400 meters of supply route made of plastic casing pipe will be laid on the northern Kaßberg and around 200 meters on the southern Kaßberg.
